It was almost poetic, Percy thought as androids all over Detroit celebrated. He was curled against Markus as fireworks blasted off into the sky, music was being played, and in general androids were celebrating.
Because it finally happened. After months of meetings, debates, and long nights. Markus had finally done it.
Androids had rights. Freedom. They were considered their own race and treated as such.
While there were still those who did hate crimes, now they could be arrested for destruction, attempted murder, attempted rape, and all of the crimes above.
Laughing as a particularly drunk android ran past them (apparently, if you diluted Thirium enough, it acted like alcohol to an android until their system corrected the dilution), Percy leaned against his boyfriend.
"Congratulations. You did it," Percy told Markus softly as their eyes met.
"We did it," Markus said softly. Repeating the words he told Connor at the end of their initial revolution.
Grinning, Percy leaned into Markus and gave the android a long kiss. "I think you give me more credit. I just made sure you got rest and didn't stress yourself too much," Percy said as his finger brushed against Markus' cheek.
"And it means a lot. You have impacted our cause far more than you realize," Markus said just as softly as his own fingers started tracing Percy's lips.
"I love you," Percy said softly, uttering the words for the first time.
While their actions have displayed in the past the love they shared, it was this time that they have actually uttered the words.
Almost 7 months since they started dating, but in the end, words weren't needed to show their love for one another.
But Percy wanted to say them. To make sure that Markus' really knew the love that his heart was filled with for the android. So he would know that he would gladly spend the rest of his life with the android.
"I love you too," Markus said softly, his eyes softening and smile lines showing as they crinkled slightly.
A particularly close fireworks startled the pair from each others eyes, and the duo glanced to the sky where the last burst of fireworks showed the symbol Markus' chose during his revolution. "Do you ever regret it?" Percy asked staring at the symbol.
"Deviating? Or the revolution?" Markus asked softly, wrapping his arm around Percy's waste and pulling him so they were hip to hip.
"I suppose, any of this. I know you don't spend as much time with Carl now. But, do you ever just, miss before either?" Percy asked thoughtfully.
"I regret how many people were lost due to the revolution, but I don't think I can fully ever regret it. Becoming deviant, finding my people, it's a part of me that I hadn't understood until I exited the safety bubble that Carl had built around me. He is my father, but it wasn't until I left him that I understood just who I am," Markus said softly as he kissed Percy's neck softly before glancing at the firework show. "Do you miss any of it?"
Percy stayed silent for a bit, his face showing thoughtfulness until his body turned to look at Markus. "No. Without any of this, I don't think I would've been as happy as I am in these last few months. Being with you, having the friends we have now, I don't think I would have that if the revolution never happened. If androids never happened. I don't think I will ever regret any of this other then Paul's and Daniel's death."
Giving Percy a soft smile, Markus stroked the fingers that were still resting on Percy's hip. "How is your mom and sister? Now that Daniel's body has been released from the DPD and finally able to be put into a cemetery?" Markus asked softly.
"Mom, is doing a lot better, Josh has been much help in that regard. With Estelle exceeding in her classes, even during the summer, she's learning a lot while traveling with mom. We call each other every night, Estelle rambling about what she has seen and have done, apparently, she has decided that being a Healer would be a great profession. Though, I know it's either Healer or a job that works with animals, as she also loves helping me out," Percy responded, and wrapped his own arms around Markus.
Chest to chest, Percy felt his heart lighten as a familiar heat over the months made it's way toward his stomach. It was a spark that seemed to be reflected in Markus' face as the android had shifted and the two were prepared to kiss again.
The moment was ruined by North. Who apparently had a giant container full of water and decided, with the help of Josh, Simon, Connor, Bryan, and Lucas that it would be a brilliant idea to dump it on the two unsuspecting leaders for Android Rights.
"North!" Markus exclaimed with a scolded tone.
"Oh you're dead," Percy said with a grin. Recognizing the mischievous look, North's eyes widen as Percy opened his arm and made an attempt to hug the android.
It ended with North dodging and the duo now play cat and mouse around androids who were laughing and cheering Percy on.
Markus shook his head,a smile dancing on his lips as he accepted the towel Simon had prepared for him and Percy. Shaking the water from his hair, Markus looked up at the stars reflecting back on him and relaxed.
It was a new day. From this day forward, they were free, they had rights, and most of all, they were allowed to be married and have a family. Markus smiled and moved his hand toward his pocket that contained a special box he had been keeping safe for the last two months.
"Soon," Markus whispered to himself, laughing as Percy finally caught North in an embrace and was soaking her as much as the water still clinging to him allowed.
Soon.
