We went outside, where a carriage was waiting. It was clearly clean and new; I noticed Jack's jaw drop slightly at the sight. (I felt mine drop too.) Darcy held out his hand to me and helped me into the carriage, and then glanced over at Jack, silently telling him to help Katherine in. He did, and off we went to a torturous dinner party.
We rode in awkward silence for a while, until I decided to break the silence.
"So, how was everyone's afternoon? Mine was interesting," I said. Nobody answered; apparently people didn't make the same small talk on the way to a tedious supper as they did any other time. After a bit more awkward silence, we arrived.
We got out just as we had got in; the boys being formal "gentlemen", and us girls "dainty sweethearts".
We went into the building, and, after a sort of butler had taken our outerwear, we were ushered into a large dining room where we were shown to a table with one man at it- Joseph Pulitzer.
We sat down, and Pulitzer, after seeing Darcy, almost looked smug, as if he had anticipated the move that we made.
Still, he didn't comment on that, only said, "How wonderful that you all made it here," with a very reserved, icy, and almost threatening tone. Throughout the meal, the threat left his voice, but the ice didn't melt at all.
We finished eating, and managed to get ourselves from any more serious talk with Pulitzer because he had some important thing to get to. We left the building, and Jack, despite wanting to spend more time with Katherine, decided he needed to get back to the boys.(Ever since returning from my world, I'm told, he's been spending more time teaching the little boys things and spending time with them.) The other three of us, however ended up heading to Darcy's home to view his library. (I mean, we do all like books, so this move made sense.)

"Wait a minute. You're telling me you never read Little Women because it is about four girls," I said to Darcy, shocked. "It's such a fun story. Dreams of travel, near death experiences, actual death, romance, and strong friendships, not to mention the believable characters."
"And besides, you've always reminded me of Laurie," Katherine added, building onto my argument.
Darcy conceded. "Alright, alright. I'll start reading it tomorrow."
I looked at the clock; it read 11 o'clock.
"It is almost tomorrow," I replied, laughing. "Katherine, we had better go."
She agreed, and the two of got our things and headed back to Katherine's house; only two streets over.
We arrived at Katherine's house to find a smallish boy sitting on her steps.I couldn't tell who it was, (I might of forgotten his name) but it was definitely one of the younger Manhattan newsies.
"Is something wrong?" I asked him.
"The Delancy's beat him up," the kid said to me.
"Who, 'him'?" I asked.
"Race." the boy replied.
