The apartment feels strangely big without Kaede, colder.
He stays in his room more, he has no reason to make dinner, so he eats applesauce on the counter in the dark.

Staring at the same spot on the ceiling until he's out of applesauce, his eyes feel heavy and he can't stop swaying.

The humming died down, somewhere between a panic attack and driving home.

He watches tv with the sound off without subtitles. reruns of game shows and cop shows that numb his brain.

His mind will sometimes drag itself to the car floor where is phone still sits, with the name of a man he doesn't really know.

He should go and get his phone, someone could break in but who would its old as shit. The cold weather could also wreck it.

His thoughts drift, his eyes soon falling shut, remote slipping from his grasp.

The shower the next morning was cold, along with the drive to work, and the phone in his back pocket.

He avoided most of the texts on his phone, which was still working, the battery drained but that's not knew.

The ones he found most pressing being about when Kaede's getting dropped off, and work-related things.

Spending most of his morning and afternoon behind the desk at the library.

On break he messaged back his boss at the coffee shop, ignoring the other texts including the ones from his mother.

His phone dying soon after.
The rest of his shift was used putting away books and giving his co-workers dirty looks when he found books in the wrong section again.

Kaede returned home at five, she walks right past him when he opens the door, Mr something or other stood at the door with a smile.

"Uh...Thank you?" it comes out as more of a question than how he should've said it.

"No problem! I hope she had a good time. Have a good evening Bakugo."

Hand still on the door he opened his mouth a few times, he doesn't do small talk. "Uhh...Yeah, you too."Waving awkwardly he closed the door softly, locking it.

Standing in the hallway to the rooms, he waits for an idea to come to him, to tell him the fight has gone on a long enough, and here's the way to fix it!

Nothing was that easy, and he couldn't fix this, some part of him wishes she had taken Kaede with her. Even if being with him was for the better, he didn't have a lot of money, he liked to think he's a better parent without her.

Katsuki doesn't know the solution this time, there probably wasn't. His phone sat charging in his room, untouched.

He didn't know how to respond to the messages, he should've stopped it all in its tracks long ago, he shouldn't have answered the first text, he should've blocked it, like any rational adult.

He couldn't be lonely, he was around people every day, sure the most conversation was with people he was serving and an eight-year-old that was giving him the silent treatment at the moment.

He didn't need more.

He was fine, and he was going to continue to be fine.

Sparing a few glances at Kaede's door, he heads into his room, leaving the door open slightly in case she needs something.

Even if it's been a while since she's needed help from him.

Sitting on the floor, back to his bed he grabs his phone unlocking it he goes to the contacts, the top one reading Unknown number. Still.

Knowing his name isn't going to change that, he swipes it finger resting on the block, he waits for the courage or whatever it is to make him press it. Make him delete the number.

There's a knock on the door his head snaps up meeting black eyes hidden behind blonde bangs.

She doesn't vocally say anything, just signing for food.
He drops his phone with a thump and stands nodding dumbly.

Walking past her he doesn't touch her, she doesn't follow as he goes to the kitchen.

He had not been expecting her too.
