Heavy breathing on the other line, "You can't keep doing this to yourself." Eijirou said softly at 2 AM in late November, "You gotta take care of yourself, maybe not for you right away, but do it for someone, someone is counting on you, whether that's your parents or! Hey even me! I care dude, and so take care of yourself even if it's just to hear me talk about goldfish than you can do it for yourself."

November past without much fanfare, only a small get together for Kaede's birthday. January already fast approaching, the last drags of Christmas finally dying out.
Kaede started spending more time at her grandparents than with him, he's been trying to balance things a bit better, sleep is more important than almost passing out at work he's only just recently found out.
Katsuki's boss' tend to not let him pick up as many hours now as they did before. Which is fine by him he guesses. Rent, food and power are still tight.
The front door bursts open Kaede running down the hall without so much as a glance at him.
"Nice to see you, too."
His father comes in next, following Kaede down the hall with only a nod at him.
"Katsuki, glad to see you're here," Mom says closing the door behind her, she's dressed already, in a fancy suit for her law firm.
"I live here." Rolling his eyes, it's too early for this shit.
She crosses her arms, "You weren't in last night when we came to get Kaede's homework," she says matter a factly.
"I was working then, I'm not now. Kaede doesn't have to sleep at yours tonight, I'm off." he takes a sip of his coffee, burning his throat on the way down, he suppresses his wince, don't let the enemy see you weak.
Mom rolls her eyes, putting her bag down on the island, and sitting down she gestures to the seat next to her. He only leans against the counter, this doesn't seem like a sit down next to me conversation.
"What."
Her fingers interlaced she rests her hands on them. "Nothing, your father and I were just talking last--"
"That's great, I'm so glad my parents have a healthy relationship." he cuts her off, taking another sip.
He picks at the flaking paint on his mug, waiting for his mother to give him her opinion, it probably, no definitely has something to do with how he's raising Kaede. He knows he's not doing great, he's well aware that he should be there for her more. He tries to...
"Shut it, and listen. We were thinking that it might be best if she stays with us permanently or just until you're back on your feet. We know what some of what happened between you and her mother, and you're unstable because of it---"
His eyes jerk up to meet hers. He stares at her. She can't be serious, he's raised her for nine years he can't just give up now, everything would be unbalanced again, he'd get worse, he couldn't let things get worse, he was already not sleeping as much as he should.
"Stop."
She startles, brushing her hair out of her face. "You're not listening-"
"No, I am. Can't do that, we've been fine for the last two years without you, you can't just start spending time with her again, and expect for me to just lie down and let you take her! She's my daughter... you can visit her, have her for weekends whatever! Just don't waltz in here and act like you know what the fuck has happened in the last two years," he rubs his eyes. "You can't do that."
