Katsuki's phone stops blowing up after that evening, he hadn't touched his phone. They just stopped without him doing anything.
Maybe he got bored, he wasn't exactly a master conversationalist.
Kaede's gone from not talking at all to signing once in a while mostly for things she can't do on her own.
He tries to tell himself it's better than nothing, but he misses her, more than he thought he would miss someone who lives under the same roof as him.
There's only so many places you can be in the apartment without the other person being there.
Even if deep down he feels anxiety growing in his stomach. He can't tell if it's Kaede or Unknown number. Or her, still after all these years.
It's always been her.
Ten years of knowing her, four of living with her.
She had twisted everything in her web, he still felt stuck wings trapped. Tragic and never-ending.
He looks at Kaede and all he can see is her.
It burns because she's nothing like them. His head pounding like he's hungover, his breaths sound all too loud.
He's still standing at the cash, which is beyond him. His co-worker he forgets the name keeps sending him looks of unease. He blatantly ignores him.
His hands shake as he presses the buttons on the cash, he tries to keep them from messing up too many orders. He doesn't smile at any of the customers but that's not unusual, he can barely form a sentence.
His manager comes by at some point and points him to the coffee machines, and then to Mr. worrywart. They switch, it doesn't clear up.
The bill for the car "accident" had come in that morning, telling him he'd be down two hundred dollars. He's already picked up two extra shifts just so they don't get kicked out of the apartment, but all he can think about is more incoming bills, school-related things, and how he's supposed to keep Kaede fed.
He lays awake that night, staring at the ceiling, the apartment is quiet and cold. He can't turn on the heating unless he wants the heating bill to go up, so he had bundled in two sweaters, and two thin pairs of sweatpants, and socks up to his shin. Kaede had done it as soon as she had gotten home, which was smarter than him.
He had waited until he had a colder than normal shower than froze his ass off when Kaede exclaimed that she left her homework in the car.
It wasn't even November yet, and he felt frozen, his feet still cold from the run he for the garage he had made in sock feet and shorts.
He could make out his phone in the corner of his eye, it would be so easy to just reach over and grab it, text the person who's been burning at the back of his mind.
Smashing his face into his pillow he groans, god he's such a fucking idiot.
He grabs it, it feeling cold in his hands, face still smooshed, he unlocks his phone with one eye the other pressed into the pillow.
Katsuki's thumb pressing quickly on the messages, he can't change his mind now.
There's no going back, he takes a deep breath, and freezes, looking at the messages last sent.
Unknown number: ???
Unknown number: im sorry???
Unknown number: I won't text this number again.
His stomach drops, when did he text that? He had wanted this, didn't he? Only he could have sent that.
Things did feel hazy from the other night, but enough to forget sending a text?
His hands tangled in his hair and pulled he watched as his phone faded to black, squeezing his eyes shut, his breath staggered.
He rolled onto his side holding his phone close to his chest, one still locked into his hair.
Was it getting to the point he was losing hours, too out of it to notice the time ticking by?
His lungs were fighting for breath, when he felt his phone vibrate on his chest, he struggled with it dropping it a few times before he could turn it on and see the text waiting there, he was hoping to see the name of the person he had cut off, ruined the chance of having something normal---
