I have a story I have a life
I am a living breathing person I am
So much more than that score my life's education
Cannot fit into the confines of this test intelligence
Is more than knowing the value of x and being able to comprehend a
Passage of literature my intelligence stretches beyond what is measurable
By the creators of this test
This test that predicts my future predicts my life
This test cannot show you what I am capable of what I can do
This test does not show how the words pour out of me this test
Does not show my passion to instill action out of the inaction in politics
This test does not show how I show compassion how I give my heart to others how I
Put others above myself this test
Does not show my love of history it does not show that I can name every US president It
Does not show that I have mastered the physics of tennis it does not show that
I can belt out mozart on the piano, my fingers fluttering like butterflies this test
Does now show that I can name pieces of gun legislation off the top of my head like
These statistics are a part of me this test does not show me, does not represent me.
This test shows my ability to follow the unwritten rules Of a standardized test
"Do your best' they say and guess on the rest this test
will determine who in your class is best
And when in my life will I need to be able to solve for x and state
how many electrons are in a single atom of uranium kids these days
know the chemical makeup of vibranium wakanda forever we
know these issues of social injustice
I can tell you all of the 27 amendments but this test
doesn't want that. This test doesn't take into account that we are all individuals
we all have strengths we all have weaknesses and
while I can solve a complicated math problem if you give me the time
I cannot solve it in a minute because I need time to think,
I need time to
breath
please tell me why will the ACT defines me
as i search for colleges as i
search for a career this test i
took at 17 should not determine the rest of me
my whole educational existence diminished to a single number,
distinguished by a higher number and while colleges look at the ACT
to understand me when my capabilities
are much more contradictory to what is measured
By this freaking test
