Sometimes
I am overcome by an overwhelming wave
Of grief
Fear
Anger
I think
Of Parkland Florida
I think
Of Jamie Gutenberg
Staring down the barrel
Of a gun I think
Of meadow Pollock
As bullets pierced her body I think
Of peter wang
As a gun stopped his heart I think
Of Scott beigel
As a gun halted his breath I think
Of Luke Hoyer as his life was ended
Due to gun violence and I think of the fear
That they faced in that moment
But that is not all
There are more
Nearly 40,000 people In america
Died this year from gun violence
FORTY THOUSAND PEOPLE
40,000 lives were ended, hearts were stopped
40,000 funerals
40,000 caskets
40,000 burials
But they are NOT statistics
These were people
REAL people
Whose lives were stolen due to the pull of a trigger
Whose lives were ended
Due to guns
So don't tell me this isn't a gun problem
Because 40,000 people would NOT have been killed
With a knife
Don't tell me I am too young
To fight for this
Because if I am old enough to be murdered in school
I am old enough to fight for my life
I should be worried about grades
Not surviving through the school day
I shouldn't panic every time I hear a pop
In fear that it is a gun
I shouldn't have to be FIGHTING for my life
Because our politicians should be fighting for me
But instead they are bought out by the NRA
And care more about their image
Than the children of america who are dying
NINETY SIX people are KILLED every day
From Gun Violence in America
Yet many politicians have NO stance on gun control
MILLIONS of lives are impacted because of Gun violence
Yet many politicians will not enact common sense gun laws
So don't tell me I am too young
Don't tell me I am not experienced
Because I will fight
I will march
For our lives
