Y/N's POV

School Graduation. Done and dusted.

It's been two weeks since the graduation ceremony. All people were concerned with now, was admission to colleges.
I'd want to say that I felt bad, not having to go to school anymore, but I'd be a liar if I said so. School had never been too kind to me.

"How would you say school has been for you?" I asked Ryan.

He was sitting on my couch, reading a pamphlet. He put it aside for a second and scrunched up his face, apparently thinking it over.

"I don't know. It's been a decent balance between good and bad. The last few years with you and Brendon have been pretty good though." He replied, smiling a bit.

I thought about his answer. It had been pretty good. The time I had spent with the both of them.

Brendon was typing away on his laptop the whole time. There was the sound of a key being pressed quite loudly and he declared,
"I'm done with mine."

We had been taking turns to use the laptop individually, to apply to colleges.

We were hoping to go to the same college, together but we were also ready to accept however it came.
Compromises have to be made.

I stretched and looked out of the window. The sun had set.

"You guys wanna go for a walk?" I asked.

They shrugged and nodded.

Once outside the house, the three of us walked towards the park near my house. We walked  a slow and relaxed gait, just making occasional comments and fragments of conversation.

Brendon's phone rang suddenly. It turned out to be his mom calling him. He had to get home. Waving goodbye, he started on the way to his house.

Ryan and I waved at him and continued walking. We found a nice shady spot under a huge tree and sat down there.
A nice breeze was blowing by. It was a beautiful day. Serene and calm.

"Time flies by so fast Y/N, doesn't it?" He said, with a sad smile.

"It sure does." I replied, a bit sadly too.

I looked at him for a while. He looked troubled.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

He looked towards the reflection of the city lights on the lake and sighed.
Eventually, he said,

"I've just been thinking. About the whole college thing. Not that I'm thinking of not going. I want to.
But, what if we can't get into the same college? I want all three of us to be together. I want things to remain as they are."

"Why do you think things will change?" I asked, now looking at the lake too.

"Why wouldn't they? If we get separated and end up in different places, things might change. I'm scared that we'll stop seeing each other and talking to each other, gradually. Finally, some day, both of us may just become a memory to each other. I don't want to be lonely." , he said in a small voice.

I sighed and caressed his hair. I had the same fear too.
I took his hand in mine and said,

"You don't need to think so deeply about it Ryan. Whatever comes, comes. I understand what you're saying. We'll do our best." I said.

He looked at me and said, "Our best?"

"We'll try to make things stay as they are now, for as long as possible. What do you say?" I ask, looking at him.

He looked towards the lake and then turned and smiled.
"I hope." He said.

The hope. As long as it's alive, things might just turn out to be okay.
