Juliet's POV:
Deep breaths. That's all I needed to do, is to keep taking deep breaths.
I was extremely nervous about this and my gut was still telling me that something was off.
But there was nothing to be worried about, was there?
No, of course not, my family couldn't possibly be planning to harm me.
And besides, even if they were, I would be quite able to protect myself from harm.
What am I even saying? My family would never intentionally try to hurt me.
I'm blame that radical thinking on my nerves, which felt as tightly strung as a bow.
Deep breaths, Juliet, deep breaths.
I took a deep breath and then quickly knocked on the door.
I waited a few seconds before the door was finally opened by a unknown woman.
She looked at me confused and then called over her shoulder,
"Honey, there's some military person by the door."
"Excuse me for just a minute, I'll be right back.", she said and closed the door in my face.
Maybe I had gotten the wrong adress, even though I had checked three times to be sure?
I walked to the sidewalk and rechecked the name and then the number on the house.
Everything was correct, but that woman that had answered the door was definitely not my mother.
My mother was a bitch, sure, but this woman seemed even more so.
I could just tell by her general demeanour, not to mention that she slammed the door in my face.
So my question was, who was she and what was she doing in my dad's house?
And who was she calling 'honey'? Oh no, was my dad cheating on my mom?
Look, I dislike my mom, but that gave him no right to cheat on her.
I felt betrayed yet again and moved to my car to leave.
I wasn't going to deal with any more infidelity cases.
Just as I got in and reversed to leave, a car stopped right behind me on the driveway, blocking my escape route.
Slamming on the brakes to keep from hitting the car, I groaned in annoyance and got out.
It was Jake and Maddy again.
"Seriously, Jake, I could've hit you! Are you crazy?", I yelled at him as soon as he got out.
"I guess you saw Gina then.", he sighed.
No idea who Gina was, but that wasn't the point. The point was that I could've killed them both.
"Dad isn't cheating on mom, Jules. That's his new wife.", he said and I did a mental double take.
New wife? As in married to her?
Well, that's nice. I wasn't even invited to the wedding.
Jake must've seen my sour look, because he was quick to explain.
"Gina thought it was best that we left you alone to get better on your own.", he told me.
"Get better? There was nothing wrong with me.", I said angrily.
"No, but she thought it was better this way and we believed it. Dad, still does. I'm sorry.", he said.
"Right, if he still believes that, then I'm out of here. Move your car, please.", I said and moved back to my car.
