With trembling fingers, Law picked up the rapidly beating heart.
What if he was wrong?
He would never forgive himself if he impaled the wrong heart.
But what if he put it back? It wouldn't take too long to figure it out, then he could just take it out again. She couldn't move yet, so it would be safe.
He groaned loudly to himself, barely capable to think straight.
"(Y/N)-ya, please... Give me a sign... Anything..." A reassured smirk spread on his lips when he felt the slight warmth in the palm of his hand before he approached the unconscious woman.
"Finally!" Luffy cheered when they saw Zou in the distance. "I need meat. I hope they have meat." he wondered out loud, causing the rest of the crew to sigh.
"I could go for some booze." Zoro yawned
"How can you guys be so calm!?" Usopp cried while clinging to Brook. "What if we're too late and she kills us all?!"
"It's fine." Their captain laughed. "Torao has things under control."
"Fence."
The crew watched behind Luffy with pale faces as Law burst through the door, groaning when he hit the wall on the opposite side of the ship.
"Or not." The straw-hat stated before turning towards the hole in the wall.
Once the dust settled, Akuma stood in the opening, still supporting herself, unaccustomed to the bone replacements.
She laughed at the dumbfounded expressions of the people. "I've had to use limbs who were barely healed after having them severed. This is nothing. Now," she turned her attention to Law.
"Give. me. the heart."
He hugged it close to his chest with a defiant glare. "No."
"Oh, we're playing games now, alright then." she clapped excitedly. "Then let's start with a simple math problem." she grinned before taking a seat at the edge of the ship. "For every minute that pass, without the heart in my hands, I will take a life on this ship. So how long will it take until a ship filled with nothing but corpses reaches Zou?"
Everyone looked at each other, not knowing what to do.
"If you believe me to be joking, let's fix that." she looked over to Luffy and clenched her fist, suddenly her face dropped. "Interesting." she said in wonder.
Too dumb to realize the actual danger, he smiled proudly. "You can't do that blood trick?"
She chuckled at his childish choice of words. "It appears so. However." her dark smile returned. "I have more magic tricks.~"
An invisible wave passed through them, right before confused and feared cries filled the air, only audible to Akuma. She laughed loudly at the scampering people who could neither see or hear anything.
"Eenie, Meenie, Miney." she made a finger gun towards a random person. "Mo." before a wall shoved him off the ship.
She giggled of amusement from her twisted game before shoving another person into the waters.
Curious, she nonchalantly passed the panicked crowd to see her two latest victims. She pouted in disappointment, they weren't devil fruit users.
Law clenched his teeth from his injured and vulnerable state. The only thing noticeable was the feeling of rapid footsteps of the wood beneath him and the heart in his pocket.
Pushing away his pride, he began crawling, while to his best abilities avoided being stomped on and felt around carefully, silently praying not to touch anything undesirable, until he felt a burn on his hand. 'Found it.'
He remembered one of the people carrying it, after taking a mental note to watch out for that person, before he grabbed the safer part of the weapon.
This was a risk that would likely cost his life, but they were all running out of options. At this rate, everyone on this ship would be dead before they reached the island.
He wracked his brain trying to figure out how to locate Akuma, while not being able to communicate with anyone else and neither being capable to see or hear.
A groan escaped his lip when his head hit the edge of the ship and he felt his way up to the railing and grabbed it to help himself on his feet.
The weapon was safely concealed behind his back right before the hairs on his neck stood out, feeling someone's eyes on him. But he remained calm, he couldn't let it show that he knew that she was watching him.
He mentally growled in frustration, the still rapid footsteps kept him from knowing whether or not she was approaching him, or if she was already close. Taking a deep breath to calm himself down - he sensed it.
The smell of hyacinths.
Then, the breath on his ear gave away the proximity.
It was now or never.
Akuma ignored the surgeon for a while, wanting to save him for last, and turned to the Straw-hats before raising her hand.
"Eenie." she pointed towards Zoro, "Meeny." Franky. "Miney." her eyes settled on Luffy before grinning widely. "M–"
The footsteps came to a halt before everyone looked around confused and with relief written all over their face.
"TORAO!"
Luffy and the other watched in horror at Akuma with the sea stone knife in her chest and their eyes traveled over her arm, now bloody, that went through Law.
