Hank planned to go out his back door and sneak up around the back of the house to enter through the lowest window which Hank presumed to be Oliver's bedroom window. It was the window Hank had seen Oliver sneak in and out of before so it meant the window had to be unlocked and easy to open which, taken out of the context of the situation, was a very scary detail. The fact that anyone could sneak into that window with a defenseless seven year old was disturbing and another reason to get Oliver out of that house before someone else did.
Hank ran down the stairs boots pounding to the back door. Before he snuck out into the night he put an LED light in a kitchen window on the dimmest setting so he could find his way back in the pitch black. It'd be especially useful if someone caught him in his rescue, he could just dash through the yard to the light and not have to try and find his house blind. Once the light was angled so it shined into the back door's window he slipped into the night without a sound.
