Hank opened the door slipping into the lobby of Chicago Med without a stir or glance. The precise opposite way of how he commonly rolled in. With a flash of his badge he could get just about anywhere he wanted. But there was only one thing he came for today.
"Excuse me I'm here to see Dr. Charles at three" Hank said to the woman at the front desk.
"Okay and what's your name sir?" she asked brightly with her hands on the keyboard of her computer.
"Hank Voight" he replied. Immediately the woman's eyes widened and her hands fumbled for the phone.
"I'll page him right now sir and I'm very sorry it may take a couple minuets" she replied as her eyes darted from the numbers to Hank. He gave a soft expression as he replied,
"no problem." He walked a few feet to an empty wall to his left and leaned back to wait. His eyes methodically scanned the room left, up, right, down, and back again. A. constant 360 at all times. It was just natural for him. But he soon came to realize he would have to show Oliver that the world wasn't constantly chaotic, dark and unpredictable all the time. Last time Hank had Camille for that and all he had to do was protect them. He rubbed his forehead gaining his control again and focusing on his surroundings again. That is until a friendly familiar voice to his right turned his attention.
"Hank! It's good to see you, glad we could make this work" Dr.Charles smiled shaking hands.
"As am I. I'm real grateful you're taking this up" Hank smiled.
"Of course! Why would I not?" Dr.Charles replied.
"Eh, well, I'm not sure how payments are going to go but I'm sure we'll discuss it" Hank said as they began walking. But Dr.Charles stopped and put his hand up shaking his head and replied,
"Hank my services are free to you as yours is to us." For once in a very blue moon Hank was left speechless at Dr. Charles's generosity. For once in a very blue moon Hank was left speechless and at the generosity of another no rather. He tilted his head in a grateful confusion and tried to respond but nothing came. Dr. Charles found this quite amusing, letting out a chuckle and smile as he raised his hand,
"Don't worry about it Hank I'm serious. As for today I talked to Melinda earlier so I can take all the time we need today before I meet the little guy tomorrow." Hank smiled as they walked to the elevators.
"Sounds great Dr. Charles, thank you again for this" Hank said stepping in.
"Of course" Dr. Charles smiled. "Now I know earlier earlier this week we talked about Oliver and his past three homes, how you met him, what he was like etc. But today I really want to go into all the details so we can start the healing process as quick as possible. It sounds like he's been through enough already" he explained. Their words and footsteps echoed in the quiet halls of the offices above the hospital which was where his office was located. When Hank walked inside it was only lit gently by the sun coming in through the windows making the space quiet and calm. Just as Hank hoped and figured it would. The two sat down across from each other and began to talk and question which began with Dr. Charles.
"So after our call I went through his whole medical file here" he said flipping through it on his desk, "and I noticed the severe loss of weight and hight that was recorded and I can already tell you now in addition to PTSD his brain is stuck in a fight or flight stage which is not only is a bi-product of the PTSD but also it's making it a lot worse." Hank nodded in response to Dr. Charles showing that he was fallowing.
"But also in looking at his files on his behavioral therapy from the ages of four to five, the same time we he was switched to his second home and these notes really lead me to believe that just the abrupt change in and of itself was enough to stunt his development and induce PTSD" he explained. "As much as we can't do anything about the stages he's missed we can make his life immeasurably better with a little more information. So tell me Hank just in this week how has he acted when it comes to meal times? What do you notice?"
