Mr. Hank?...what did I do wrong? Why don't they like me? Nobody likes me! Nobody! Nobody!! NOBODY!" Oliver kept screaming louder and louder as he pounded on the floor next to him harder and harder. A sharp pain accompanied by some instinct jabbed at Hank deep down making him scoop up Oliver and swaddled him in his blanket that was on the floor so he couldn't violently thrash. Hank sat down in a chair holding Oliver tight and close, rubbing his head and face to try to console him. To try and stop his painful wailing and harsh convulsions. Hank rested his head on Oliver's whispering to him to breathe and that he wasn't going anywhere. Hank didn't know how much time had past but a while later there came a knocking at the door. It was Emily Cravas, a tall, nicely dressed black woman with gorgeous and lavish curls. It was Oliver's social worker. When Emily walked into this sight she quickly walked over to Oliver concerned about his well being. Hank then quickly explained what happened earlier that night and some of the things that Oliver had endured in that house. This caused her to also start for tears to stream down her face. She stroked Oliver's hair and apologized profusely.
"I'm so, so, so sorry Oliver. I'm so sorry" she gulped trying to compose herself.
"Let's go get your things and take you to the boy's house you were at last time okay?" she asked gently. Oliver turned his bright red, tear soaked face away from Hank's shoulder to her,
"C..c..can Mr Hank come? I'm scared" his voice shook.
"Oh Oliver I..."
Hank interrupted her promptly,
"No don't worry it's okay, I've got to go home anyway. I live right next to the house but I'll need to tag along with you in your car if you wouldn't mind."
"Oh no don't worry! That's not a problem" she smiled brightly. With that news Hank stood from the chair, still cradling oliver and carried him out of the room. As they walked through the office Hank's team fell silent. Painfully silent. Just watching and hurting for a reason they searched each others faces for, but couldn't find the answer to. When they got to Emily's car Hank stayed in the back seat right next to Oliver the whole ride until they arrived at the house which caused Oliver to hide under his blanket in fear. Hank hugged him over the shoulder,
"It's okay Ollie, It's all over. It's all done" he stroked Oliver's shoulder. It wasn't long until Emily brought Oliver's few belongings and put them in the trunk. Hank knew this was the moment he wasn't looking forward too. Letting Ollie leave. Hank unbuckled his seatbelt and wrapped his arms around Oliver one more time and whispered in his ear
"I will always care. You'll never have nobody. Never forget that kid."
Hank forced himself to let go and step out of the car and speak to Emily before they left. To his surprise when he did she hugged him.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you" she cried.
"It's no problem, I've had kids of my own. You've got a special one" he smiled looking at Emily in the lights.
"I know" she smiled wiping her tears before reaching into her pocket to take out a card and hand it to Hank.
" My cell is on the back if you ever want to check in."
Hank smiled doing the same and giving her one of his cards,
"I will. Take care of that kid" he said honestly.
"I will sir..he seems to have grown a liking to you Sergeant Voight. Who knows? If he runs off this'll be the first place I check" she said causing them both to chuckle.
"I'll bet on it. Don't worry he'll be safe if he does. He knows that."
Emily hugged him once more before parting ways. As he watched the car drive away something in him didn't feel right. To see him go wasn't okay. All he kept thinking as he looked down at Emily's card was he'd come back.
"I'll come back for you Ollie. I will" he thought to himself as he turned to his front door. But what he saw in the windows was empty and cold. Even colder now that he didn't have that one light next to him. He turned the knob and walked inside and said hello to another sleepless night.
