September 12th
FinnI sat in the waiting area of some dress shop while the girls tried on dress after dress that all looked the same to me. I was only having to do this because I had drawn the short straw among all the guys.
Sadie had found her dress almost immediately and was now sitting to the right of me with her bag.
Lilia on the other hand wasn't so easily pleased by clothing hence she had been trying on different dresses for the past hour-and-a-half.
"Come on, babe, you look good in anything." I groaned, far from being over this.
From somewhere behind the curtain a muffled "one minute" came then seconds later Lilia appeared in a short black sequined dress that hugged all the right places. She looked gorgeous to say the least.
"So?" She placed her hands on either side of the wall and looked at us. "What do you think?"
"Perfect." I said with a grin. "Absolutely stunning."
Sadie nodded her head in agreement. "Get it, Lils, you'll knock'em dead tonight."
Lilia smiled before disappearing behind the curtain again.
I couldn't help but smile. Lilia was practically my sister and I was proud no matter what she did or said.
In fact, one time in third grade she punched this kid Asher for daring to say her brother wasn't coming back from the army, so I took her to get ice cream.
Not that Asher had been wrong in his statement, but it was still funny.
"Hello, earth to Finnie." Lilia snapped her perfectly polished yellow nails, bringing me out of thought.
"Huh, yeah, I'm here." I stood up. "Let's go girls." We paid and left the store.
But something stopped me before I could climb into the car. A laugh. But not just any laugh it was her laugh.
And there she was across the street at Dairy Queen, her chocolate brown hair pulled back in two braids. I could almost see the necklace that Charlie gave her hanging down as she reached for her milkshake.
Millie.
She looked so happy and carefree. A girl with stark blue eyes sat across from her at the table eating a blizzard. A girl I could only assume was Maddie-Millie's best friend and constant companion-although the only thing I had to go on was that she was Insanely pretty with crazy blue eyes.
For a moment, I was tempted to go over there, to finally speak to her outside of Hallows Health while her guard dog wasn't around; but then I saw him.
Romeo Beckham was his name from what Lilia had told me, she said he was quite someone at school. I think she had said he was a star football player or some junk.
I was a fool to think she wouldn't have someone on the outside, and that she had loved me.
Romeo sat down in between the girls with his own food and said something to make them laugh.
That when I realized it was time to go. I couldn't keeping standing here with my car door open watching a girl who was never mine.
"You okay, Finnie?" Lilia asked as I slid into the driver's seat.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I blinked back tears. "Let's just go home and get ready for tonight."
It wasn't the first time I had seen Millie in the past month, but even if I walked right in front of her she didn't even bat an eye.
Especially not when he was always by her side.
