August 26th
Millie

I sat at dinner that night answering question after question from my newfound friends about who had come to visit me. Apparently they never received visitors around here.

Finn was abnormally quiet beside me, which was never a good sign-or so Caleb had told me on my first night. It had proven to be right so far because last time he was like this Iris Apatow's lacky almost got a new nose job.

Tonight, however, his dark eyes were fixed on the staff's table.  As I followed his gaze, I realized it was on none-other-than Nurse Ryder. His gaze wasn't a friendly kind, leaving me to wonder what the kind nurse had done to him.

My question was soon answered when Miss Ryder shut the lid to her computer and started for our table. "I warned you, Finn." She said the moment she stopped in front of us, hands on her hips.

I reached over to grab his hand-something I definitely know she saw-and gave it a squeeze.

He smiled but the smile quickly vanished as he looked at the older woman. "I have no clue what you are talking about, Nona." He spoke calmly, almost too calmly for anyone's liking.

She gave him a look that could only be traced back to a saddened parent after their child blatantly lies to them about doing something when they for a fact know the child did.

"I seriously hoped it would come to this." Her brown eyes flicked to me and suddenly I felt very small. "Did he or did he not come to where your visit was, Millie?" She asked in a manner that made me scared to answer.

This time it was his turn to squeeze my hand. I took a deep breath and looked at him. "Yes, he did but only because I asked him to." I lied. "I'm still very new, and these hallways are very confusing. I was afraid of being lost."

Nurse Ryder mulled this over a minute. "All right, I suppose, but I catch you doing something like this again, Finn, there will be trouble." With that she sauntered off like nothing had happened.

Finn turned to me with graditude in his almost black eyes. "Thanks, Brit, you saved my life."

"Now how did I do that?" But I never got the answer because the annoyingly loud buzzer rang to signal dinner was over.

The next day we were on lock down because apparently some kid named Jack went crazy on one of the male nurses during bed check last night. I learned quickly that lock down with a roommate like mine was actually fun.

We were sat on his bed playing yet another game of cards. Noah seemed to enjoy cards more than any other game we tried to play. He got aggravated at Monopoly, and upset with Sorry so we stuck to cards. Mainly we stuck to go fish and crazy eights.

I was basically living with a five-year-old. But, hey, I'm not complaining he a pretty cool five-year-old.

"I won." I yelled, throwing down the last match needed to win the game.

Noah looked at me, pretending to pout. "No fair, I want a new roommate." He crossed his arms.

"Very childish, N, how do you ever expect to get a girl acting like that." I picked up the cards to shuffle them again.

"I have a girlfriend, thank you very much." He stated proudly.

Dealing out the cards, I laughed. "No, you have a Sadie."

Noah gave me a look that could only mean So she's a girl and we're dating, then picked up his cards and presided to totally ignore me for the next half hour other then to tell me to go fish.

After what seemed like an eternity and seventy-five games of go fish, the rhythmatic tapped of our code being typed in sounded.

In seconds, Finn appeared in our room, his black curls wild and in his face. "What's up, guys, you look bored." He crossed the room til he was standing in front of my side of the bed.

Noah started to answer only for Finn to speak again. "Noah, I hope you don't mind, but I need to steal your lovely roommate for a bit." He wasn't asking but telling Noah.

"You can't have her." Noah replied. "Besides we're on lock down, how did you get out?" He looked at his friend with curiosity.

The other boy gave him a dull look and held out a hand. "First, none of your business, Schnapp, and second, I wasn't asking permission."

I took his hand without even thinking about it. "I'll be back later, Noah, if they ask where I went just tell them I'm in the bathroom." I looked back at the smaller boy, smiling softly.

Finn lifted me to my feet then started out the door, my hand tightly in his still. He led me down the halls and to a door marked staff only.

"Where are we going?" I questioned as the heavy metal door of the stairwell swung closed behind us.

"You'll see." He leaned down quickly to peck my lips. "I promise it'll be worth it." He resumed climbing the stairs.

I followed after him, a little amazed at the way he seemed to run the place. Was it really so wrong to be like this? To be carefree and not worry about what you were doing? Or to-

My thoughts were interrupted as we reached the top stair, a small strip of floor stood before us and a door beyond that.

"What's past there?" I found myself asking.

He grinned a Cheshire cat smile back at me, his hand already on the door handle. "The world, Brit."
