Millie

Blood. So much blood everywhere.

"Ava!" I screamed but there was no  reply.

The house was a mess and all I could see was broken furniture and blood. It was like some kinda of sick movie that I was in the middle of.

Where was everyone? What had happened? More importantly where was Ava? Her name was all I could say as the world seemed to slow.

"Millie!" The scream cut through the air like electricity, her scream.

Taking the stairs three at a time, I was inside Ava's bedroom in a matter of seconds. The scene here was worse than anything that was downstairs or in Hallows Health. Ava on her knees with a gun pointed to her head.

I didn't need to look up from the child to see the long brown ponytail of the intruder, her cold smile, or dead eyes. I knew it was her, and that she wouldn't stop until she had what she wanted: me.

"Millie, help." Ava didn't turn to look at me as she pleaded but kept her dark eyes on the barrel.

I started forward, my eyes glued to the blood on her little dress. "Don't move!" The voice came from the person with the gun, causing me to freeze. "Move and she's dead."

"Please, don't do this! She's just a child." I reasoned.

They looked at me, dead eyes boring into me, eyes that looked like mine. "Oh shut it, Millie, I was just a child when took everything I loved from me!" She snapped. "You took him and you made sure no one would ever find Joe like some psychotic seven-year-old."

I closed my eyes. "That was an accident, but you killing Charlie wasn't." I paused. "and if you kill Ava it will be one more innocent person you murdered."

She looked at me for a long moment then pulled the trigger. "No another person you'll have murder." She sneered. "Hurry go find your precious Jack before they find her body."

I sat upright in the middle of the woods that separated our town from the next . It was all a dream..... A dream. Crap where was I and how did I get here?

I stood, trying to still my shaking body, and went to pull the cardigan closer to me.

My parents are going to kill me but I had a feeling that if I told them what had just occurred they wouldn't be yelling, they would be afraid. I barely paid attention to the shaking anymore and more to the thin splatters of blood that stained my fingers.

It was all too real.

Stumbling deeper into the woods, I felt so small. The same woods that had secrets for most the town whether it be affairs, drugs, or crime the woods protected it all. However, tonight the twisted branches seemed to curl around like they planned to trap someone in. Trap them like Joe and Charlie and wherever this blood had come from.

This hadn't happened in a long time, and I didn't need it to start now. I was finally settling back in and they were trusting me.

Slowly I realized what part of the forest I was in and made a sharp left coming out on the corner of Lynlee Avenue and Jefferson Street. Of course, I was here of all places. It was always back to him and childhood.

___

The subdivision was just how I remembered it from being a kid. The pristine yellow house with white roofs and doors, the only thing different was the one house with the red door. The exact house I was looking for.

I pounded on the door until it finally gave way to a medium height boy with brown curly hair. "It's three in the morning, Millie!" My childhood best friend Jack Grazer scolded me in a rushed voice.

Pushing past him into the room, I sighed. "I had another dream." I didn't need to elaborate for him to get it.

Jack's eyes widened slightly as he looked at my hands. "Who's blood is that?"

"If I knew I'd tell you." I ran a hand through my tangled hair.

"You woke up in the forest again, didn't you?" Jack said, turning on the tap and placing a glass under it. "What's the last thing you remember?"

I thought about the question for a minute. "I was at a party with Maddie, I got bored so I went upstairs and this girl was about to be raped so I stopped it." I relayed. "The last thing I remember was holding her as she cried."

"Weak, crying, and completely secluded from everyone." Jack handed me the glass. "Great now we gotta check the woods for dead girls or parts of dead girls."
