Ch 27

"Jemma!" I yelled into the phone. "Jemma!"

I pulled the phone away from my ear and saw that she had ended the call.

I ran over to Ashton and Athena, hugged and kissed them, told them I loved them, then I quickly hopped into the car and drove to the base. The drive isn't too long but when there is a possibility that your fiance is dead that makes it alot longer.

As soon as I made it inside the S.H.I.E.L.D. base I ran into the lab.

"Where is he!" I yelled.

"He is over here." Said a very familiar voice. I turned around to see Ward smiling lightly and waving his hand at me.

"Ward!" I yelled as I ran to him and hugged him. I quickly pulled away and smacked his chest. "I thought you were dead." I said angrily.

"That's my fault." Jemma said as she walked towards us. "I was going to tell you that he woke up but there was a malfunction with one of our experiments. I was going to call you back but I forgot. I'm sorry."

"It's fine." I told her. "I was just worried." I looked down at Ward laying in his hospital bed then back to Jemma. "When do you think he can come home." I asked her.

"He should be good to go in a few days." She paused for a couple of seconds. "I'll give you guys a minute."
She said before walking away.

"I am so happy you're ok." I said as I sat down on the side of his bed. He grabbed my hand. "Both of the kids really miss you." I said to him. He smiled as he and used his free hand to wipe away the tears on my face. "I missed all of you too." He said. I smiled and leaned down to kiss him.

He shifted over and I lied down next to him. "I love you but you look like you haven't slept in a week." He smiled. I chuckled. "Go to sleep." He told me. "I love you." I said. "I love you too."

"Shhhh. You'll wake her up." Someone whispered. I sat up slowly and rubbed my eyes. 

"What time is it?" I asked groggily. 

"You should be asleep." Ward told me. I stared at him for a few seconds. He sighed and looked at the clock next to his bed. "It's 11:15." 

I quickly got off his bed. "I have to go pick up the kids from preschool. They get out in five minutes and it's a twenty minute drive." I said frantically. 

"Okay." He said. I leaned down and kissed him. "I love you."

"I love you too." He said. I smiled at him and ran out of the base and to the car.

"I'm so sorry I'm late." I said as I walked up to Mrs. Luna, who was watching Athena and Ashton for me until I got there. I called her when I left The Base and told her I was going to be late. 

"That's okay." She said smiling. 

"Mommy!" Ashton and Athena yelled. I bent down and they ran and hugged me. 

"Hi guys." I kissed both their foreheads before they ran off to go play again. 

I stood up. "Again I'm so sorry that I was late." I said to Luna. 

"There's no need to apologize." She said in her sweet voice. "Are you okay though?" She asked.

"Yeah I'm fine. It's just my fiancé was hospitalized about a week ago and he just woke up from his coma today. I was with him and I guess I just lost track of time." I told her. 

"I'm so sorry to hear that." She said. 

I smiled. "He's okay now. But thank you so much for watching them a little longer."

"Of course," she replied, "anytime." 

"Kids. It time to go. Say bye to Mrs. Luna." I said. 

"Bye Mrs. Luna!" Ashton and Athena yelled in unison. 

"Bye guys." She waved. 

I smiled at her before I grabbed both Athena's and Ashton's hand and walked them to the car. 

"Do you guys want to go to the base?" I asked them when they were buckled in. The shook their heads yes.

I chuckled as I began to drive off.
