He got down from the car and walked straight to her, and they immediately started arguing about something. I couldn't hear their words, and honestly, I didn't care. I didn't feel like stepping out of the car either , my temper was bad enough, and she wasn't worth it.
I connected my phone to the bluetooth and played Cause Trouble by Lil Kesh, and turned the volume all the way up. I flicked on the headlights for good measure. Both of them turned and shielded their eyes from the light. I ignored their confused expressions and kept miming along to the song, feeling the lyrics run through me.
It was getting late, and these two didn't seem ready to call it a day. I was tired and getting very annoyed so, I slid into the driver's seat, honked the horn loudly, and watched as they slowly made way for me. Without a word, I drove inside, parked the car in the garage, and grabbed my bag.
Was I supposed to feel jealous? No. I just met him, and besides, it's not like there was any real connection between us. Right?
I rushed to my room, eager to wash off the stress of the day. I ran myself a warm bath, adding a sugar and lime bath bomb. As the colorful fizz dissolved into the water, I felt a sense of calm wash over me. I sank into the tub, watching the colors swirl around, touching the water gently, and feeling my hair. I loosened the braids I had made earlier and grabbed my Bumble and Bumble Creme de Coco shampoo, massaging it into my hair. I took my time, letting the soothing scents fill the air.
An hour later, I drained the water, reluctant to leave the sanctuary of the bathroom. It was my magical escape, the only place where I could go and not feel the weight of everything.
I grabbed a small pink towel, wrapping it around my head, and slipped into my fluffy pink bathrobe. It felt like heaven against my skin. I walked out, feeling refreshed, and sat on my bed, massaging lavender and vanilla cream into my skin. I wasn't in a hurry tonight.
My stomach growled mid getting ready Really, baby? You're hungry already?I unwrapped the towel from my head, combing through my long, dark hair with gentle strokes. It draped over my shoulders, still damp, but I didn't feel like drying it yet. After spraying on some oud perfume, I tied my robe tighter around me and slipped into my fluffy slippers. Grabbing my boom box, I headed downstairs, passing the upstairs parlor where I could hear faint giggles.
I rolled my eyes, shrugged, and continued down to the kitchen.
What to cook... what to cook...
It's dinner, so something light. As I opened the fridge, I played Versace on the Floor by Bruno Mars on the speakers, letting the rhythm guide my movements. I swayed to the beat as Bruno's smooth voice filled the kitchen.
Let's take our time tonight, girl
Above us all the stars are watchin'
There's no place I'd rather be in this world
Your eyes are where I'm lost in...The song flowed through me as I finally decided to make meat-stuffed pancakes with a mocha Oreo shake. Bruno Mars was right, he always helps me make good decisions. By the time I finished cooking, the meal looked absolutely delicious. I smiled, proud of my creation, and carefully placed everything on a tray.
As I turned around, I nearly collided with someone's chest. Startled, I looked up. Barefoot, in ash sweatpants and a tight blue t-shirt, stood Naseer.Oh, Lord... why does this guy always have to ruin my night?
Our eyes locked for a second. He looked at me lazily, like he was half-bored but curious at the same time. I instinctively stepped back, clutching the tray closer to me, but he stepped forward, his brow raised.
"Huh?" I blurted out, not sure what his problem was.
"Can you move?" His voice was calm but impatient. "I'm just trying to get water from the fridge."
Without another word, I quickly moved aside, watching as he grabbed two bottles of water. He turned to leave but then hesitated. His lips curled into a mischievous smirk as he looked back at me.
"The girl you met outside is here to stay," he whispered.
I froze. Excuse you?
I slammed the tray down on the counter and marched right up to him, my face inches from his. He towered over me, and I had to stand on my toes just to reach his neck. I didn't care. I wasn't about to let him disrespect me like that.
"Listen here, mister," I snapped, my voice trembling with anger. "I saved you from total embarrassment in front of your parents earlier. Is this how you thank me? I've been quiet, I've put up with you ignoring me for a month—A MONTH! But I swear, I am not going to sit back and watch you bring... whatever that is," I gestured toward the door, "into our matrimonial home. You understand me?"
He looked down at me, his expression unreadable. After a tense moment, he simply shrugged. "Suit yourself," he muttered before walking out on me.
Did he just walk out on me?
I stood there, stunned. Seriously, dude? You walked out on me?
Fine. Two can play this game, Naseeru Afaan Miko, Je ka tambaya waye Khadija.
With a smug smirk, I picked up my tray, headed back to my room, and closed the door behind me.
