I smiled to myself, feeling the weight of payback looming over me. Without wasting time, I rushed back to my room to change. I slipped into a flay-hand top paired with Ankara print palazzo pants. Zara had plaited my hair the day before, so I simply packed it back and tied a brown scarf tightly around my head. Grabbing my chain Chanel bag and sunglasses, I headed out. When I reached the parking lot, there he was he looked... dazzling. Like someone about to attend a wedding ceremony. I mean, really hot. He was in the process of removing his babban riga when his eyes locked with mine. Our gaze lingered as I walked toward my car.
Before I could process what was happening, he was already walking towards me. My body stiffened as he came closer, his breath warm against my neck. He placed a firm hand on my waist while I struggled to open the car door. My fingers fumbled with the keys, but I couldn't seem to unlock the door. Meanwhile, the girls were giggling, clearly enjoying the show.
"Sassy pants, you do know you're not going out dressed like this, right?" His voice was calm but authoritative.
I didn't bother turning to face him. "And why is that?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
"Because I said so. Now, go back and change."
I snorted, finally managing to insert the key. "No, husband. I won't," I shot back, unlocking the car.
"You'd better change, if not..." he warned, his voice trailing off ominously.
I turned to him, smirking. "If not what?" My tone was dripping with defiance, knowing full well that he wouldn't dare pull anything with Hajiya Bintu around.
But before I could enter the car, I was lifted off the ground in one swift motion. My eyes widened in shock. "What the... put me down!" I yelled, wiggling and trying to break free, but his grip was firm. The girls squealed, but quickly fell silent when he shot them a glare.
He didn't say a word, just carried me effortlessly towards the house, ignoring my protests. "Drop me right now or I'll bite you!" I warned.
He smirked. "Go ahead, but you'll pay for it."
Frustrated, I did exactly that, I bit his chest. He winced but didn't stop walking. "You're gonna regret that," he muttered.
"Whatever," I grumbled, finally giving up and lying limp in his arms as he carried me up to my room. Once inside, he dropped me unceremoniously on the bed and walked straight to my wardrobe. Pulling out a purple abaya, he threw it at me.
"Here, wear this," he ordered, leaning against the wardrobe.
I raised an eyebrow at him. "Do you have any fashion sense? How can I wear this abaya with my palazzo?" I asked, gesturing dramatically.
He shrugged. "Never claimed to. Now, get up and change or you're not going anywhere," he said, sitting down on the couch, visibly annoyed.
Rolling my eyes, I grabbed a different outfit and rushed to the bathroom to change. After a quick change, I stepped out. "Let's go, I'm ready."
He eyed me, unimpressed. "Should I burst your bubble?"
I raised an eyebrow. "Go on."
"It's either you wear an abaya over that outfit, or you're staying home."
I groaned in frustration. "Are you serious?"
He crossed his arms, clearly not backing down. I sighed, giving in, and grabbed the abaya off the bed.
"Good," he smirked, watching as I reluctantly put it on. "Now, shall we go? Hajiya's waiting."
"Yeah, yeah, let's go," I muttered, heading for the door.
As we walked out, he casually added, "Oh, by the way, I called Malam Idi. Hajiya's with Mama now, so there's no rush."
I stopped dead in my tracks. "You... what? Ugh, you're so annoying why didn't you tell me all this while "
I rolled my eyes again. "Where exactly are we going?"
He smirked. "You're spending the whole day with me, so buckle up."
"Fine but we're going to the mall first."
"Perfect. Ladies first," he gestured grandly, and I walked past him, making sure to strut just enough in my heels. I could feel his eyes on me, and I smirked to myself.
When I stepped outside, the girls cooed at my appearance, but I kept my face straight. I headed to the car and was just about to open the door when, once again, he stopped me.
"What now?" I groaned, turning to face him.
"Shush, or I'll kiss you right here in front of everyone," he warned, his voice low. "Zara will drive your car. I'm driving this one."
"Seriously?!" I muttered under my breath, shaking my head.
"Unless you want that kiss," he teased, raising an eyebrow. "I'll take that as a 'no' then."
I got into the car quietly and unfortunately for me, I ended up with Furry thankfully Iman and Zuhra were in the car.
Zuhra kept giving me one of her classic evil grins. I ignored her, but it was clear she had something on her mind.
When we finally reached the mall, I got out first and headed straight inside. I needed chocolate to calm my nerves, so I made a beeline for the chocolate bar and started picking out random treats. As I was about to pay, my phone buzzed. It was a message from Afaan: Where are you?
*Ban sani din ba,* I replied sarcastically.
As I reached into my bag for my debit card, a small piece of paper fell out. I bent down to pick it up and froze when I read the words scrawled across it in messy handwriting:
**"Be AwArE, StAY aWAy FROm AfaAN~"**
