"Hey, can you please give me the keys to my room?" I interrupted their heated discussion.
"Afaan, you even locked her room so she'd have to sleep in yours, right? So you can betray me with this fool!" she shouted, tears streaming down her face.
Wait, did she just call me a fool? *Kuuut.*
Without thinking, I stepped forward and slapped her hard across the face.
"Listen up, let me tell you something. "Shiru shiru ba tsoro bane! Keeping quiet doesn't mean I'm scared of you! Just because I tolerate his nonsense doesn't mean I have to tolerate yours!"
She opened her mouth to respond, but I cut her off.
"I've had enough of this!" I exclaimed, my voice rising. "I swear to God, I'm crazier than you think! You're the real fool here. If you think I'm joking, say one more word. You think I love being married to him?" I pointed at Afaan and burst into a sadistic laugh. "Try one more nonsense with me, and I swear you'll be out of this house, nonsense!"
I turned to walk away, but I suddenly felt a hot sting on my cheek.
"Afaan, you slapped me! How dare you?!" I yelled, my voice trembling with indignation. I stepped right in front of him.
"Afaan, please kill me," I taunted, sarcasm dripping from my voice.
"Shut up, Afrah, or I swear to God, I won't hesitate to!" he snapped back.
"Afaan, I've had enough of this! I know you've hated me since day one. Maybe since the first time you set your eyes on me. So I need to know my place. Who do you choose? Me, your legal wife, or this excuse for a lady?" I demanded, wiping my tears away with the back of my hand, trying to maintain my composure.
Afaan's POV
I knew what I did was absolutely wrong. But when she rubbed it in my face that she didn't want to be married to me, I had to shut her up because it hurt so badly . And the only stupid way I could think of was to slap her.Damn you, Afaan.
She stood in front of me, her eyes red from crying, and began to sniffle.
"Afaan, I've had enough of this! I know you've hated me since day one. Maybe since the day you first laid eyes on me." Her words stabbed me, but I kept my distance.
"If only you knew, Afrah, if only you knew," I thought, guilt clawing at my insides.
"So I need to know my place. Who do you choose? Me, your legal wife, or this excuse for a lady?" she pressed, wiping her tears with the back of her hand.
I felt the urge to step closer, to confront her, but I needed to clear my mind first.
"Look, Afrah..."
"Shut up, Afaan! Just shut it! You choose her over me, yes?, I'm leaving your house! Don't even try to stop me because I'm not staying! Thank you very much, I'm leaving you two in peace!"
She bolted out of the house, and I instinctively tried to follow her, but Anisa stepped in front of me.
"Baby, where are you going? Go take a shower, and you can check on her in the morning," she suggested, her tone a mix of concern and irritation.
I hissed in frustration and trudged up to my room. I've never loved any girl like Afrah. Ya Allah, protect my wife for me.
I locked the door behind me and tried calling her, but her phone was off. I took sleeping pills, but they didn't help at all. As I lay there, I heard bangs on my door, but I ignored them.
Finally, it was 6:30 AM. After praying, I still couldn't sleep. I checked my phone and saw a new message.
"Assalamu Alaika, son-in-law. Meet me at my house at 2PM tomorrow I'll be waiting."
My heart skipped a beat. What did this mean?
