Chapter 3

Rachel 

I can’t believe the nerve of this guy. Why did I ever date him your probably wondering, well to tell you the truth I’m not sure. I thought he would be a fun guy that I could casually date over the summer but all he ever wanted to do what make out and that was okay for a while but when he kept pushing for third base so I dumped his ass. 

‘Every thing is fine thank you Sam. Finn and I were just talking’ I tell him and take a step closer to Finn. I hate the way Sam and his jock friends have always treated Finn and I hate the way Finn never stands up to them either. I mean Finn is 6'4 and towers over Sam. 

‘Oh’ Sam replied and by the tone of his voice I can tell he’s a little surprised. 

‘Well the guys and me are going Breadsticks. Why don’t you join us it will be a lot more fun than hanging with this looser’ he tells me. 

I look up and I can see the look on Finn's face, it’s not one of surprise or hurt at Sam's words and that doesn’t surprise me either. I mean he’s been putting up with this the entire way through Junior High and High School. But what concerns me the most is that he has just accepted what they say. 

‘No thanks Sam I’m just gonna catch a lift home with Finn's I reply. I see that Finn's expression has definitely changed now to one of surprise. I mean it’s not like everyone doesn’t know that we are neighbours, I certainly have no problem admitting that Finn is my neighbour and friend. And true we don’t travel to school together very often but that’s mainly because I ride with Santana and we usually go to Blaine's straight after to school to rehearse. 

‘I’ll just grab my stuff and we can go. Ok Finn?’ I ask him just to make sure we’re on the same page. 

He smiled ‘Sure thing Rachel’ he replied. 

Finn

I know she probably thinks she just helped me out here but I know that as soon as she leaves I’m in for it from Sam Evans. It’s very well known that Sam has threatened to have a few of his team mates kicked off the basketball team because they were going to ask out Rachel. She may think it’s over but I don’t think that Sam got that memo some how. 

‘What do you think your doing Hudson?’ he says when Rachel is out of earshot. 

‘Just what Rachel told you Evans. Giving her a lift home’ I reply feeling a littler bolder. I mean if Rachel can stand up for me the least I can do is back her up. 

‘Don’t think that I haven’t noticed the little obsession you have with my girlfriend Hudson. I see you staring at her when she isn’t looking you’re so pathetic. Rachel is so out of your league it isn’t even funny’ he tells me. 

‘Funny Sam, but I thought that she broke it off with you weeks ago’ I remind him with a small smirk. I notice that Puck is watching us from the stage and we’ve actually caught quite a few other people’s attention as well considering that Sam is now only inches away from me. 

‘Well you heard wrong. So stay the fuck away from her’ he growls. 

‘Well Rachel actually told me herself. Are you calling her a liar’ I ask him, adding on a small chuckle trying to lighten the mood. I mean I may be taller than Sam but the guy is on the wrestling team for Christ sake. 

‘What the hell do you think your doing’ a voice says from behind us. I look up and Sam turns around to see Rachel standing there with a bag thrown over her shoulder and her hands on her hips and god does she look beautiful when she’s pissed. 

‘Just having a heart to heart, aren’t we Hudson Sam responds before taking a step away from me and one closer to Rachel. 

‘Yeah a heart to heart’ I reply before moving my gaze to the floor. 

‘Bullshit. You know what Sam she starts ‘since we’re giving out threats here I have one of my own. Stay the fuck away from my friends. I don’t want to see you or any of your dumb jock friends anywhere near Blaine or Finn or I swear to god I wont be responsible for what I let Puck do to you’ she growls at him. 

You see there is one guy in our school that no one dares to mess with and that’s Puck, which is probably why he and Santana are such a good match. Santana has spent most of her high school days threatening bullies that pick on Blaine and well after a couple fights in junior high people got the message not to mess with me when Puck is around. But the thing with Puck and Santana both is that they have this huge soft spot for their friends, especially Rachel. Puck is like Rachel's older brother and I know that he wouldn’t have a problem with Rachel using him to threaten Sam Evans. 

Sam puts his hands up in defeat and takes a step back. ‘What’s so special about Hudson and Anderson hey Rachel?’ he asks and if I’m not mistaken I actually hear a bit of hurt in his voice. After all him and Rachel used to be good friends until they started dating. 

‘Well maybe the fact that they don’t treat women like a piece of meat for a start’ she answers. 

With her answer he takes another step forward and reaches out for her hand. ‘Is that what you think I did when we were together?’ he asks her ‘God Rach don’t you know how much I like you. You’re the most special girl in this school, I’m sorry if I didn’t treat you like the princess you are’ he tells her. 

Somewhere inside him I think he’s trying to sound sincere but he didn’t pull it off well enough to convince Rachel and she snatches her hand away from him quickly. 

‘I’m sorry, look can we be friends?’ he asks her then. 

She seems to think about it for a little while. ‘You need to earn friendship Sam she replies. ‘So if that’s what you want then you can start by leaving my friends alone’ she tells him and then without another words she grabs hold of my hand and leads me out the door.
