"Princess Euphemia wake up! Your Mother wants you in the throne room immediately." I heard my grandmother say for the third time this morning. I groan and sit up, rubbing my eyes. "Why does she need me?" I asked. "You will have to go to her to find out my dear." My grandmother said. "Yes Grandmother." I sighed and got out of bed. "Now go get dressed." I nodded and walked into my closet and decided to wear my favorite dress. I put on a short, blue dress with a long skirt in back and a white under skirt. My dress has two darker blue bows on it and has off sleeves. I wear a blue choker with a white diamond and white gloves with two blue stripes. I am wearing blue and white heeled sandals. My hair is pale blue and in high, slightly curled pigtails and I have silver eyes. I changed quickly and headed to the throne room.
You are probably wondering where I am from and who I am by this point. Well, my name is Euphemia and I am the Princess of Alteria. My mother is the Queen and my father went missing when I was four. I am now fifteen years old and I will become the crown princess when I turn sixteen in three months. I walked into the throne room to find my mother and my knight, Calix. He is almost eighteen and he has been the only friend I have ever had. We have known one another for ten years. "Hello Mother. You summoned me?" I asked. "Yes I did. I have a proposal for you. One, you can be placed in an arranged marriage between yourself and the prince of Xenia. This will cause you be able to leave Alteria and travel to another country. Or two, you can go to a high school here in Alteria as a normal girl, where not many people will know who you are. Remember you are the only one allowed to be named Euphemia. The students will not know, but the Professors may. If you choose this, you must attempt not to make relationships that will not last once you are crowned. Now please chose my young Princess." My mother said to me.
"Yes Mother, but why are you giving me a choice?" I asked. "Because I do not want to give away my only child so soon if there is another choice. It is also rumored that people at Alteria High School are being rude to the other young students there." I nodded and thought about the options. I did not like the first choice at all. I am fifteen and I am definitely not getting married, So I am pretty sure I am going to go with option two. "Mother? I would like to go to school." I said without a second thought. My mother nodded. "Very well my daughter. In two hours you will simply be Euphemia to your knight and the rest of Alteria High School. Sir Calix, Euphemia, You are dismissed." I nodded and said my thanks.
Calix and I left and headed to my room. "Why will they not know who I am at the High School?" I asked Calix. "Well Princess, the last time you were seen in public. you were only four." I nodded, remembering the time right after my father disappeared. My mother had to tell the people of Alteria that I would be crowned Crown Princess at age sixteen if my father had not returned. Also that would be the last time the people of Alteria would see me until my sixteenth birthday.
"What happens when I turn sixteen? Will Mother pull me from school? Will she send guards to school and end up making a scene?" I rambled on and on. Calix smiled. We stopped outside my room and I looked at Calix. "Wait here. I will be back shortly. I do not think I will blend into the crowds of a civilian high school in this." I said referring to the dress I was wearing. Calix smiled again and nodded. I walked into my room and into my closet. My closet is twenty eight feet high and fifteen feet deep. I have clothing stretching floor to ceiling and front wall to back wall.
Now you might be wondering how I get to the top row of clothing. Well there is a ladder, but I do not usually use it. So there must be another way and that is right. See, I have a secret known only to me. I have wings and magical powers. Not wings like fairies in the books I have, they are not sparkly or colorful. My wings are like the ones of a pegasus or an angel. They are made of feathers and they are the same pale blue color as my hair. I can summon them out at will, but they also threaten to appear when my emotions get out of control. Now I have to go to school with them. I close my eyes and envision my wings. I open my eyes and my wings are sticking out of my back, I fly to the top of my closet to a smaller section of clothing and shoes.
The section includes tennis shoes, sweatpants, sweatshirts, jeans, plain simple dresses, and t-shirts. I pick out a pair of ripped blue jeans with a black belt, a navy blue crop top shirt with a deep red heart on it, a pair of black and white converse, and a wide blue bracelet for one wrist and gold bangles for my other wrist. I took my hair out of pigtails and used my magic to straighten it. I did not want to put it back up so I left it down. I flew into the air and looked in a mirror I placed high in my closet. I looked beautiful with my wings out, but no one else knew about my secret and I hoped nobody would ever have to find out. So I flew to my door and stepped down on the ground. I closed my eyes and felt my wings retract. Thanks to my magic I could hide the scars that should be where my wings are attached to my back.
I opened my door to see Calix leaning against the opposite wall. He was now dressed in black pants with a short black and white jacket. He had a white shirt on with a blue undershirt and he wore tall black boots. He had a white braided belt and long white gloves with black buckles. He carried a brown bag and his hair was black with dark blue highlights. He looked cute." I am pretty sure I asked you to wait." I said and smiled. Calix stepped away from the wall and walked toward me smiling. "I was waiting, until her majesty told me to change into something more common for Alterian civilians. We are going to school today. We do not have much of choice about the school we attend. It is the only school near the castle. So are you ready to go Milady?" I nodded. "Let's go." I said as I turned and began walking down the hallway.
"Calix? I stopped, but did not look back at him. "Yes, Milady?" he replied. "Please stop calling me that. You can not do that in public. People will think we are crazy. Just call me Euphemia." Calix nodded and smiled. "All right Mila... er Euphie." Calix said. I smiled in response. We walked into the main hall and I saw my Mother and Grandmother waiting. "Are you ready to go my Princess?" My mother asked. "Yes Mother" She nodded her head slightly. "Very well. Take care of her Calix. I am trusting you. You know the way. Do not talk to anyone until you have reached the school. There will be students waiting there to help you when you arrive. They will know you are new. Now go. You do not want to be late." We nodded and left.
