Chapter 9

"Hello everyone. I would like to invite all of you on my journey to Xenia in two days." I said once they got into my room. "Really?" Rose said. "Yes, but together we must visit your homes. To let your families know you will be with me for a little while longer. "Okay, when can we leave?" Amaya asked. "As soon as Amelia gets here. I must have a guard with me at all times."
"Wait? What about Calix? He's your knight or something isn't he?" Moka asked. "Yes Moka he is my knight, but he has to do something for my mother and will meet us in Xenia." I heard a knock. "Princess? Are you ready to leave?" I heard Amelia say. "Not yet. We are still changing." I walked into my closet, shut the door behind me, and closed my eyes. I felt my wings appear and I flew to the top. I picked out normal clothes. I found some clothes in the very back of my closet for Topaz and flew back down. When I touched down my wings disappeared and I walked back out, "Here. Please change into these and I will fix your hair." I sent Topaz into my closet and the rest of my friends quickly changed. I told Topaz he could come out as I started to quickly do the girls hair. "Alright time for your parents to meet the princess." I said smiling. We left the room.
"We are ready to go now Amelia."
"Alright then Princess lead the way."
"Thank you Amelia."
We left the castle and headed toward school. "Okay girls, Topaz. Let me know when we get close to one of your houses." I said. "Turn left." Moka and Topaz said at the same time.
"Would you like to lead?" I asked. "Okay Thanks" Moka said. Her and Topaz moved to the front and led the way to their house. They stopped in front of an old looking big brick building. "This is our home. We live in apartment 1H. Come on." Moka said. We followed them into the old building and down one of the halls. They opened a door that had a plaque saying 1H. "Mom? Dad? We are home." Topaz said. "Oh my children. Where exactly have you been for the past two days. We have been so worried." A lady with short black hair said. "We texted you mom. We went to the castle." Moka said. "Yes, yes. The castle. I want the truth please." Their mother said. "Miss?" I said to Moka and Topaz's mother. "Hello. I have met those three. Who might you be?" She asked. "My name is Princess Euphemia of Alteria." I said hoping she would believe Moka and Topaz now.
"I am sorry, but I do not believe you." She said. "Mom. What more do you want. Mia can you call in Amelia?" Moka said. I nodded. "General Amelia? Your presence please." I said Amelia came in the door. "Yes Milady?" She said. "Your badge Let me see it." I said. "Yes Milady." Amelia pulled out her badge and handed it to me. "Here take a look at this." I said and handed it the their mother. Everyone in the kingdom learns in school what a royal badge looks like. "This is a..." "I am home." I heard a deep voice say. "Dad!" Moka and Topaz say. "Hey you are back." A man with brown hair said as he came into sight. The guy looked familiar. He is a soldier. "Sir Keaton?" I asked. He is a soldier of the royal guard. One of Mother's knights. Keaton had taken some time off and was due back at the castle tomorrow. He looked at me and then to Amelia. His eyes widened and he dropped to one knee and bowed. "Milady. Has something happened while I was away." I smiled. "No Keaton. Please stand." He stood and I continued, "I am here to ask permission for travel to Xenia tomorrow for Topaz and Moka." I said. "Well then. Permission granted my princess." Keaton said. "Thank you Keaton." "Now do you believe us mom?" Topaz asked. "Yes I do. Keat? What is Xenia?" Their mother asked. "It is our neighboring kingdom. "I am engaged to their eldest prince and I have been since the age of four." I said trying not to smile. "Oh! That is good?" She asked confused. "Yes, very good. Xenia can help us and we can help them." I said. "Princess? We must be on our way. We leave tomorrow for Xenia and we still have three more stops to make." Amelia said.
"Bye mom." "We will come back soon." Topaz and Moka said. "Call me everyday. I love you and have fun." "We will mom." Moka said as we left. We walked outside and I turned to my friends. "Who is next?" I asked. Amaya raised her hand. "I live about a block away." She said. "Okay. Lead the way." I said smiling. Walked for a little ways and stopped in front of a yellow house. "This is my house." She said quietly. She led the way into her house. "Grandma? Are you home?" She asked. "I am in the kitchen Mya." I heard a voice say.
She walked down a hallway and through a door. "Mya!" I heard a squeaky voice say. A small child came up to Amaya. It was a little boy. He put his arms in the air. "Up. Up." He said. Amaya bent down and picked up the little boy. "Hey Kaldur. Did you miss me?" Amaya said smiling at the little boy. "Miss you. Miss you." Kaldur said smiling. "He kept asking for you Mya." Her grandmother said. "Who is he?" Seraphina asked. "He is adorable." Rose squealed. "Thanks Rose. This is Kaldur. He is my baby brother. He's almost three years old. Kaldur? Say hi to everyone." She said then looked at Kaldur. "Hi!" Kaldur said and waved at us. "Hello girls. Hello Topaz. Who is your new friend Mya?" Amaya's grandmother asked. "That's Euphemia." Amaya said. Her grandmother turned to me. "The forbidden name. You are the Princess?" She asked, eyes wide.
"Yes. I am Princess Euphemia Miss. I am here to ask if Amaya may travel with me to the kingdom of Xenia for my wedding to their eldest Prince." I said. "Oh that is right. Princesses get married as young as twelve. Of course she may go." Her grandmother said. "Thank you. I am sorry we can not stay long, but we have to rise early in the morning. We have two more houses to visit and we need sleep. She will return faster than you'll realise." I said smiling softly. We left the house and this time it was Rose's turn to lead. We arrived at another tall brick building. This one looked newer than Moka and Topaz's home. "I live at the top." Rose said. We walked up some stairs and through a door at the very top. "River Lily? Ocean Coral? Are you home?" She said. "Sea Rose? You're home!" Two girls one with green hair and one with light purple hair a little older than Rose emerged from a room. "Hey girls. I must go away for a little while. I am going to the kingdom of Xenia for Princess Euphemia's wedding." She said. "You know the princess?" The green haired girl said. "Yes Coral I do." She said and giggled. The other girl must be River Lily. "How do you know her?" River Lily said. "Hello. My name is Euphemia and I am a friend of Rose's." I said stepping forward.
"No way. She looks like the picture mom drew." Coral said. "Yes she does. The pale blue hair is a sure sign." Ocean Lily replied. "Our sister is free to go with you Princess. Would you like some tea before you go Girls? Topaz?" Ocean Coral asked. "Maybe when we get back, we can't stay long." Rose said, "Goodbye sisters. I will see you soon." She continued and hugged her sisters. We left the building and it was finally time to meet Seraphina's family. We arrived at a light blue house with a beautiful garden in front. Then I saw something I wished was not real. Foot soldiers. Alterian foot soldiers. They were arresting a young man who looked like Seraphina. His hair was long and a darker purple, but his eyes were silver like hers. "No. Luca!" Seraphina screamed and started toward the house. I grabbed her arm. "Wait, who is that?" I asked. "He is my older brother. Please Euphemia you have to stop them." She started panicking.
"I will, but you have to calm down." She nodded and took a deep breath. I walked into the house. I saw an older woman in cuffs on the ground. "Mom!?" Seraphina said. "Do not go to her. It will only cause problems. Soldier!" I snapped. Seraphina stopped and I turned to the soldiers. "Who are you." The one closest to me snapped. "I am Princess Euphemia and I demand to know why these civilians are in chains." I said in a voice my friends have never heard. "Apologies Princess. These two are being arrested for illegally being in Alteria. They are not Alterian born Milady, but there is a girl missing." My eyes widened briefly. "Very well, let me speak with them. Alone. Please wait outside." I said. They nodded and left the house. As soon as they left I turned to Seraphina. "Would you like to tell me what is going on please." She sighed and nodded. "They are right. We're not Alterian born. Eight years ago we came to Alteria seeking refuge from our home kingdom. The Alterian border soldiers denied our passage, so we decided to sneak across. My father died getting us to safety. It looks like now we must return." She said. She looked so sad, but I knew she was telling the truth.
I nodded. "I believe you Seraphina, but I need to know which kingdom and why. What exactly happened?" I asked. "W-we are from... Leterra. We were escaping war. Our entire village was raided. Most of our village friends were killed and those of us who survived either escaped or were taken prisoner. I swear we mean Alteria no harm. We love being here it's so much more peaceful here." I nodded. "Seraphina. I can try to help you, but Leterra is our most hated enemy. If mother finds out you are Leterrian... she will never forgive me." I said. She nodded. Her family was still in chains on the floor. They looked so helpless, "But... I know what I can do."

The soldiers brought Seraphina's brother and mother to the throne room. My parents were there
just as I had hoped. "Mother? I want to invoke Code Seventy-Three." I said. "Why? There are not even Alterians." Mother said. "It matters not Mother. You raised me to show kindness and give forgiveness to everyone. This is the mother and brother of Miss Seraphina here. I want to use Code Seventy-Three. You said I could freely use it once and I would like to use it now." I said explaining myself. Mother nodded. "I have no place to argue then. Guards. Release the prisoners and bring a soldier's and maid's uniform." Mother commanded. I turned to Seraphina. "They will be granted citizenship here in Alteria and so will you, but it comes at a price. You must work here in the castle. Your brother will be trained as a soldier and your mother will become a maid. They will be treated well and will be given a place to live here in the castle. You will become my Lady in Waiting and basically follow me everywhere. It is not too difficult." I said smiling. She hugged me then ran over to her mother and brother. "Mom, Luca." She said and fell into her mother's arms. "I have to go away for a little while mom. I am going to visit the Castle of Xenia for Princess Euphemia's wedding." She said. "How are you invited." Her mom asked. I walked over and knelt down next to them. "Miss? I am Princess Euphemia. I am a friend of your daughter's." I said. Seraphina's mom released Seraphina and hugged me. "Thank you Princess. Thank you." she said. "You are welcome ma'am." I said. I stood and so did Seraphina. Her mother and brother were sent t0 start training and start working. "Child. You are dismissed. Please bring your friends to your chambers and have Topaz return to Calix's chambers. You are to rise early and be ready to make the journey to Xenia.
