The table was silent as we ate. "Child? We have something to discuss after dinner. I want you to meet me in the throne room. Come alone." Mother said. "No mother. What you want to say my friends can hear as well." Mother looked a bit angry, but nodded anyway. "Very well. In two days time you will be visiting Xenia. The King and Queen of Xenia and I have arranged for a wedding to happen in twelve days." Mother said. I stood. "What!? No! I will not do it. I do not want to. Mother you gave me the choice not to. Please." I said with tears in my eyes.
I looked at Calix, then to our friends. They all looked confused apart from Calix. "What's happening Mia?" "Why are you so upset?" "What wedding?" Our friends asked. "My Queen wants for Euphemia to marry the eldest Prince of Xenia," Calix said. "And for all I know he could be like thirty." I said. I broke down crying. I felt arms pull me into a hug. I looked up to see Calix. "Please do not cry Euphie." He said quietly. "Soldier! What do you think you are doing." I heard my mother snap angrily. "Leave him be Callista. Giving a friend a hug is nothing for you to get upset about." I heard my grandmother say, "Child? You and your friends should go to your room. I will talk to your mother." I turned to face my grandmother, "Thank you grandmother." I pulled out of the hug and ran out of the room. "Mia!" "Euphemia." "Euphie!" I heard my friends shout as they followed me to my room.
I got to my room and collapsed on my bed. I snapped my fingers and my long blue hair fell in curls down my back, I left my dress on in case they followed. The door shut behind me. A moment later it opened and closed. I felt someone sit beside me. "Euphie?" Calix asked quietly. I opened my eyes and wiped the tears from my face. "You already know the guy you are to marry." He whispered so quietly I could barely hear him. "What do you mean?" I asked. "I have lied. To you, to our friends. Only your grandmother and mother know the truth." He said. "What? What did you lie to me about?" I looked at him and he looked like he was going to cry. He was looking at the floor and avoiding eye contact, "Calix?" He took a deep breath. "Eleven years ago. A little boy showed up at a castle, with his mother. This castle was in a failing kingdom and this mother and son were from a neighboring kingdom. She told the Queen of the failing kingdom that she would help her kingdom, but wanted her son to marry the princess when they came of age. The queen agreed, but had one condition, the boy had to stay and get to know the princess. So that is what he did. He got to know her and something happened that he never expected. He had fallen in love with the princess, even though he vowed not to. Because he did not want to marry someone he was forced to." He looked at me. "Who is this boy? The Princess? Who are the people and places in your story?" I asked liking his beautiful story.
He took another deep breath and turned away again. He took off his gloves and reached behind him. He pulled out a small dagger, "Read the inscription on the blade." Calix said, handing me the dagger. I looked at the blade and found a small engraving.. It read: To my handsome little Prince. May you never forget your kingdom. -Mother "Calix? Is this yours?" I asked. He nodded, "Look at the handle." I looked at the handle and saw another engraving The writing was very small, but readable. Property of Prince Calix of Xenia "This means that... Y-You are a prince o-of Xenia? I dropped the dagger in shock and stood. Calix caught the dagger before it hit the bed and looked at me. "I am sorry. I was not allowed to tell you. Your mother forbade it. I have wanted to tell you for years. "That story? Was the little boy..." I started, but was too afraid to finish. "Me? Yes. I am the boy from that story. I am also a Prince of Xenia. The eldest Prince of Xenia. You are the princess from the story Euphie. You are the one the I am to ma..." I cut him off as I felt my power rising inside of me. I need to control it. "You said the boy fell in love with the princess. Does that mean?" I turned my back to him. "Yes Euphie. I-I have fallen in love with you. I have loved you for many years now." He paused. "Does this upset you?" He asked a few minutes later "I-I do not know." I pulled my hair to the side and started braiding it. Somehow it calms me down.
There was a long moment of silence. "Euphie...? Your back?" My eyes widened. I never hid my scars again after revealing myself to mother, and my friends were all too busy to notice the faint scars on my back. "Are those scars? I have never seen those before." Calix said. I heard him walking over to me. I turned toward him, but avoided making eye contact, "They are nothing Calix. Please do not change the subject." "Change the subject! Euphie you have two scars on your back. And they not very small. What is going on? What happened to you?" He said. "I can not tell you, but I can tell you part of where they come from." He nodded, "Please tell me." He said. I took a deep breath and spoke. "My father told me this story yesterday... One hundred years ago in a land called Faerydae, there was a young girl. She was beautiful, but she was not a normal girl. She could sprout wings from her back and retract them at will. She could also use magic. This girl was special in more ways than that though. She was Nyx. Queen of the Nephalems.. One day, Nyx decided to travel to the human world and soon after, she met a man. Nyx and this man fell in love, but their love was not to be. The man found out that Nyx was an Nephalem and instead of accepting her, he rejected her and it broke her heart. In anger she fled the human world and took her anger out on her people. They overpowered and banished her, but what her people did not know was that Nyx had a baby. The baby was born in the human world, and grew to be an amazing child, but lacking a queen the land and kingdom of Faerydae began to crumble. Its people fell into slavery under the rule of Kieshel. The Daemonium Lord. There is a prophecy that one day, the heir to the Faerydae's throne will return to Faerydae, defeat Kieshel, and free the Nephalems." I told him the story that father had told. He looked confused,
"That is an interesting story Euphie, but you said you would tell me part of the reason you have those scars." "That is part of the reason. It is the reason I can not tell you." I said. "Can not or will not?" He asked. I sighed. "Will not. I am too afraid to tell you. You will be afraid of me. Like my mother was at first." I said quietly. "I could never be afraid of you Euphie. Never. No matter what. Please tell me." He pleaded and I sighed again. "Very well, but please do not be afraid." He nodded. "Wait. What about our friends. Do they not deserve to know?" "Calix? You are lucky I am telling you. Other than Mother and Father. No one knows and if it was up to me no one would have ever found out." I said louder than I thought and a bit scared. He nodded. I closed my eyes and I felt my wings once again weigh heavy on my back. I opened my eyes and watched as my wings finished stretching to full size. I took another deep breath and I looked up. I met Calix's eyes, he looked afraid. "Calix? Are you afraid?" I asked him, he was silent for a long time. I heard a knock. "Mia? Calix? Are you guys okay in there?" I heard Moka say from behind the door. "Yes everything is fine." I snapped my fingers and I was in a blue skirt and white half sleeve shirt. My hair was pulled to the side and I had two blue flowers in it. I wore blue and white flats. "Can we come in Euphemia?" "Yes one moment. The door is locked." I had to by a little time. I went to walk over to open the door, but something grabbed my hand. I was pulled into a hug by Calix. I did not even realize he had moved. "I am not afraid." He whispered in my ear. "Thank you Calix, but I really have to let in the girls and Topaz." I said. He released me and smiled. "Yes you can not keep them waiting any longer, but they are going to find out I am a Prince soon. I must leave for Xenia so I am there when you arrive. Besides I miss my brothers and little sister. I will see you all in two days" He said. "Bye Calix. I can not wait to meet you... again." I said and laughed. I opened the door and Calix left.
