"I tried to pressure Heimdall for information about the war but he never revealed a thing to me," Eir said some time later in the afternoon. She had been let in the room by Loki and they had spent some time sharing their experiences in the last month they had been apart.
Loki looked up at her, his eyebrows furrowed in what could only be described as interest as he leaned slightly forward. He clasped his hands in front of him, eager to hear what she had to say it seemed. But Eir hesitated. She feared that if she actually did tell him what she had felt while he had been gone, he would use her feelings to mock her or he would get distant, for whatever reason. She was really glad to have him sitting opposite her, evidently healthy and safe. But at the same time, she still felt like he wasn't really there.
He had been gone for a month. A whole month in the battlefield. He had grown in experience while she had remained the same. There was a chance he would get tired of her being emotional, that he would wish to isolate himself from her in hopes that she wouldn't be a nuisance. It didn't matter to her that the way he was looking at her at the moment was clearly expressing interest in whatever she had to say, she couldn't help but think there would come a time that he would use what she shared with him now against her. After all, it wouldn't be the first time it would have happened to her.
"Eir," he called softly as he took notice of how her expression darkened and she looked away from him, almost as if she was having second thoughts about something. The more she didn't say anything the more confused he was growing and he actually caught himself thinking whether she had been like that before he had been gone and he had just forgotten about it.
"Forget it, it's nothing," she shook her head as she turned to face him once again, and to his surprise, he realised she was forcing herself to smile. "What do you think of being back in Asgard?"
"I wanted to return home the moment I left," he answered as he leaned back on his armchair, his eyes narrowing as he watched her. "Mother and I have a special bond. It had been a wish of mine to see you again too. But here you are now, withholding information from me."
Her eyes widened instantly. "What?"
Loki raised an eyebrow. "You think I wouldn't notice? You literally started talking and then stopped, not letting me know the whole story for whatever reason. You've never done that before."
She looked at her lap. "I-"
"If it's because of the time we haven't talked, then I assure you you can still trust me. I haven't changed all that much."
"Most of us don't understand we have changed until someone else points it out," she said silently.
"Is that it, then?" he instantly questioned. "Does it seem to you like I've changed while I've been gone? Because the way I see it, you are the one that behaves differently."
She instantly looked up. "Me?"
"Yes, of course, you," he pursed his lips. "A month ago you wouldn't have hesitated a single moment to share your thoughts with me. Now you refuse to speak. It's almost as if you don't trust me."
"You've been gone for a month, I don't know if you are still the same person you were. Maybe you have reset your ideals and values while you've been gone, war does that sometimes."
"If you are talking from experience, I can assure you I'm not your father," he announced and Eir noticed that his jaw was set. She could only guess he was annoyed. "Even if I've changed my values, why is that supposed to change anything? What does that have to do with you?"
"Perhaps you've realised that you have better things to do other than waste your time with me, I don't know," she exclaimed as she leaned back on her armchair as well. "I don't know, Loki, the change of your values could affect me though, one way or another."
