The Baby Kicks

Happens after HTTYD 3

Summary: Astrid and Hiccup got married. Three weeks after the marriage, they find out Astrid is pregnant. They are so happy now to expand the family with a little newborn.

Astrid is now 5 months through her pregnancy.

It was very late in the evening and Snotlout, Tuffnut, Ruffnut, Fishlegs, and Astrid was hanging out at the academy. Hiccup was out doing his daily chiefting, so he was very busy.

Astrid was really beginning to feel her pregnancy now, and therefore she couldn't fly on Stormfly - for obvious safety reasons. She was a little sad since she couldn't have fun with the other Vikings as she used to, but her friends - as the very kind people they were - really wanted to spend some time with her here in the evening.

The twins - as usually... - just started to argue about dumb things such as; if it's a success if a book about failure doesn't sell well? or where the white goes when the snow melts?

Astrid didn't mind, she was getting used to it after all these years. She just enjoyed the time with her friends - even though she also really wanted Hiccup to be here with them.

They had fun with random conversations about their daily lives. It was great to finally be together with them again - especially since they had some busy days as well.

"Hey, Astrid, can I ask you how it feels? - I mean can you feel it?" Fishlegs gently asked and pointed at Astrid's abdomen. Suddenly the twins stopped arguing and were now totally focused on Astrid. The whole Gang just stood and looked at Astrid with interested and curious eyes.

Astrid was a little shocked over their sudden interest for her baby, but it was nice to know that they cared about it.

"Sometimes I can feel some small kicks," Astrid said and began to blush, gently trying to hide her red cheeks with her palms.

It was a fun look to see how the other Vikings' eyes widened as they all gazed at her abdomen with open jaws.

"So, CUTE!" Ruffnut suddenly burst out. She was so excited for the little Hiccstrid-baby to arrive into the world. "I want a baby myself!" she continued and began to shed some tears of happiness.

"EWW, I don't think that's a good idea, Sis... I mean your look is not qualified... for a baby" Tuffnut said with his arms crossed, giving her a serious look.

Ruffnut sniffled, "It's better to hold your tongue, Brother, you are not qualified either! you look like an ant-conquered Yak!" She hissed with narrowed eyes and gave him a harsh punch on his shoulder.

"That's not true! Jeg er som skabt til at blive den perfekte far! (Just some random sentence he knew)" Tuffnut hissed back, looking proud.

The twins just started to argue again, but the others just ignored it and kept on talking.

Time went as the conversations just got longer and more exciting, but it was getting very late now and unfortunately, the fun had to stop at some point. They all agreed to get some sleep and went home to themselves - as for Astrid, she went to Hiccup's hut, truly hoping that he was at home.

...

Astrid came to the hut and went inside. There was very quiet, only the snores from Toothless were noticeable. Astrid had really hoped to see Hiccup, lying shirtless in the couch with a block of ice on his forehead as he used to. But tonight he was not...

Astrid was a little sad but it didn't matter, soon he'll be home again and then she could lay down and cuddle with him as they used to.

She went up the stairs and into their room. To her big surprise, Hiccup was there, looking all tired and fatigued. He really looked like a punctured water toy.

Astrid carefully went down beside him, trying not to wake him up from his relaxed slumber.

As she pulled up the blanket, she could feel one of Hiccup's arms, snake around her chest.

"How are you and the baby?" He gently whispered. His voice sounded like he had been screaming all day.

"I am really beginning to feel some action in there" Astrid whispered and moved her arm around in circles on her abdomen. She had never mentioned the kicks to Hiccup before.

"How does it feel like?" Hiccup whispered curiously.

Astrid smiled, "It's like having a little person, gently kicking your insides" Astrid laughed. She put her hand on top of Hiccup's.

"Do-does it hurt?" He asked, this time having a little more curiosity in his voice.

"No, but it is a wonderful feeling" Astrid whispered. She turned her head to look at Hiccup.

"How wonderful?" He asked again.

"Very wonderful" Astrid replied.

"Can you feel it now?" He whispered and moved a little closer to her.

Astrid just looked at him with a smile. "Why don't you check it out yourself?" she said and with one hand, took Hiccup's arm, and with the other hand she pulled up her shirt. She carefully laid his palm on top of her abdomen, giggling a little as his warm hand touched her cold skin.

Hiccup dropped his jaw. This was amazing, he never got to do this - Astrid is very protective. He sat up - still resting his palm on her abdomen.

"Try to listen" Astrid whispered and took a grip around his neck, slowly pulling him down to her.

Hiccup put an ear on the spot, not breathing a single breath. He was so excited about this. Astrid could feel his excitement and interest, and gently ran her fingers through his locks.

"Bup... Bup... ... ... ... Bup..."

Hiccup gasped and his eyes widened as though he saw a very cute puppy. He had just felt the baby kick. Something a soon-to-be father dreams about. Hiccup looked back at Astrid with a big smile.

"So, that is how it feels," Astrid said with a smirk, she really wanted Hiccup to feel it himself someday. Hiccup didn't breath, he was so overwhelmed by this happy moment.

"Bup... Bup..."

"So, cute, that is our little baby in there," Hiccup said and moved his hand around in small circles - still resting his ear on Astrid's abdomen.

"Hey, baby" he gently whispered. Astrid giggled, it was fun to see her husband talking to her belly.

Hiccup stopped moving his hand and kissed the spot, right above the bellybutton. "One for you, my baby," he whispered.

He sat up and quickly leaned towards Astrid. She could feel his lips touching hers.

"...And one for you, my dear"
