You Beat Up Jake?

No more than two days had passed when I gotten the call from Paul that Jacob had shifted, the limited fuse inside him finally running short.

Jacob had shifted on the outskirts of Seattle, thankfully with no witnesses to see him exploding into an overside dog. Sam and Quill immediately heard his confused and quite loud thoughts and sped to the city realizing the harm of potential exposure.

"What was Jacob even doing in Seattle?" I asked Paul over the phone as Kim and I sat in my car listening to him on speaker.

Paul let out a snort, "He thought he was on a date with Bella but there was another kid there. The other kid- fuck, what was his name, Jared? Mike? Oh right! This Mike kid got jealous and pissed off Jacob..."

Kim rolled her eyes, "Of course, out of everything to trigger his shift, it was a white boy with a crush on Bella."

I smiled to Kim, amused at her annoyance. The pack and us imprints obviously knew of Jacob's puppy crush on Bella and the power it had over him. Whether that was good or bad, the rest of us hadn't decided yet.

My eyes trailed away from the phone in hand to see Embry trailing solo through the grocery store's parking lot.

"Should we say something?" I asked Kim as I frowned in immense guilt.

Kim instantly thwarted my idea and stared at the boy, "That wouldn't do him any good."

"I feel so bad, we're sitting here joking about it and he's loosing his friends."

"What's going on?" Paul's voice practically pressed through the phone.

"Embry.." I answered, "He's leaving the store."

"Aurora it's a shitty thing to happen to him and Jake, but -"

"It doesn't help anyone to feel bad," I mocked him, already knowing what he was going to say, "I know.. it's just that if he doesn't shift, I wish that he could be let in on the secret."

"He can't." Paul affirmed, "It's dangerous for anyone to know, even you guys."

"This conversation is really bumming me out now," Kim huffed and took the phone from me, "Luna'll see you later, by lover-boy!"

I didn't mention Kim's abrupt hang up as we made our way into the grocery. Emily had sent the two of us here to get ingredients for her latest food invention and partially as a distraction from Jacob's shift.

"Quinoa?" Kim questioned, reading the list, "What is that?"

"It's in aisle three," I answered, turning the shopping cart down the corner and searched the limited stock to see the quinoa tucked securely at the end.

Kim frowned reading the label, "It's rice?"

"No- it's a plant."

"Sure looks like rice, what is Em cooking?"

"Something healthy," I shrugged, partially distracted by my thoughts.

Kim's expression nearly caused me to heave over from laughter. She looked utterly horrified at heaving to eat something new and possibly healthy. It wasn't a secret that her and Jared were the pickiest of the pack and lived off a very concerning diet of pizza and Chinese food.

"Jared's gonna through a fit," She mumbled, tossing the two bags into the basket.

"Jared? Don't you mean you?" I smiled, wiping tears from my eyes.
