Why Haven't You Told Her
Today was one of the rare days that I went to school without Paul. Sam never liked to schedule the boys for patrol during school hours-so it rarely ever happened-but with the Victoria and Emmett incident on Friday, Jacob and Paul have been in the dog house.. so to speak.
Jacob was pulling double patrols all weekend while now it was Paul's turn to suffer with running double patrols and missing school because of it.
"Hey!" Jacob greeted right when I got out of my car in the parking lot. "Want to ditch first with me?"
"Sorry?" I questioned, only half listening as I gathered everything into my school bag.
"Ditch first with me, we need to go on official pack business."
"And do what?" I pressed, somehow able to sense that Jacob was spewing some bullshit.
"I'll tell you on the way."
I gave him a look, yet as I went to push past him he stopped me.
"Come on!" He huffed, "just ditch with me."
"Why would I do that?"
"Because these classes are boring are you're already a straight A student."
"Yeah I have straight A's because I don't ditch," I smirked triumphantly to which Jacob simply rolled his eyes.
"You've ditched with Paul before, come on we're family."
I sighed, "fine, just because we have a sub for my first period, I'll go."
Jacob's car was parked a few spots from mine and as soon as he hit the road, I already had a feeling of where we were going. It wasn't until we hit the 'Welcome to Forks' sign, I began to complain.
"Seriously, Jake, what are we doing?"
"We gotta go visit a friend," He simply replied with a smile.
"Bella?" I groaned and slumped in my seat, "I'm not gonna be your wingman-even if we are family."
"Okay, first off, I don't need a wingman, second, I figured you'd want to see her, and third, I think you're the most calm member of the pack to take."
"Why? What is this even about?"
"I just need some support."
His cryptic answer left me more annoyed.
"Whatever," I sighed, knowing he wasn't gonna tell me anything.
We pulled into the Forks High parking lot and right away Jacob went to wait by the front steps of the school. I followed him, partially in disbelief at his behavior.
"So...what, you're just gonna surprise them here? How do you even know Bella's gonna be here."
"I called last night," He shrugged and then tuned in to searching the crowds.
I groaned and huffed, "You sound like a creep." Despite my anger at this inconvenience, I also began watching the crowds of students file through the front doors. There was definitely a lot more kids here than my La Push school.
I realized that the students here must be well acquainted and know each other on a first name basis because Jacob and I continued to get weird looks and it seemed people were going out of their way to not get in our way.
A group of guys stood by the front steps, blatantly staring at me and my cousin. Even when I caught their eyes, they continued to watch, annoying curiosity fueling their rude behavior.
