A life without parents

I heard the doorbell ring.
I went downstairs and saw my parents.
They hugged me and gave a peck on each cheek.
Well, even though my parents are divorced. They prefer seeing me together because they don't want to ruin my childhood or think marriage is useless. But they don't know that I'm not upset about them getting separated, all I ever wanted was to have a normal family like others.
I wanted them to be here with me.
I wanted to be loved and chrished by them everyday which looked like a distant dream now.
All they do is work.
My dad is an Indian and he works in a multinational technical industry named 'Wave Inc.'
I don't know much about his job because they rarely talk about their professional lives.
My mom is half British and half mexican. She's a lawyer and works in Liverpool. Dad works in Germany.
I live with my grandparents in one of the suburban towns of New Jersey.
They come to meet me once in a while and they never speak about the reason behind the divorce.
It's like a taboo.
They avoided such topics.
My mom's name is Martha Cliff.
My dad's name is Vivek Roy.

My grandparents often told me that I had inherited body features from mom but I've got eyes, nose and a cute smile like my dad.

My mom hugged me and said "Hey look what I've bought for you"

She handed me some large shopping bags which had names of brands which were really popular among teenagers and very few lucky ones had the chance of owing such great stuffs.
But they never filled the void in my heart....

Dad smiled and said "I've bought something for you too"

He held out a small box to me.
I opened it and there was a gold pendant inside. I took it out and I flipped the pendant glass it had something engraved on it.

It read- "No darkness can overpower light, you shine more brighter than light, so always search for the light within you."

He took the pendant from me and put it around my neck.

"There you go, it looks perfect on you,
You look beautiful"

I smiled and thanked both of them for the gifts.
Mom went to the kitchen, dad patted my head and walked towards the living room.
I stood in the corridor for a while, wondering what to do next.
When no one called me inside, I went upstairs.

Albert was there all along. He looked at me and said "Well, that's really an expensive gift you've got there"
"Shut up"
I was in no mood to talk to anyone because whenever my parents visited me, I used to feel gloomy and I didn't liked their presence at all in my life.

"It suits you"
I didn't answer.
I kept quiet for another hour.

He finally said "What are you so upset about? Cheer up my eva!"
"Nothing, I just want some time alone, I hope they leave soon"
"Okay, take your time I'll be here for you"
"Thanks"
"Smile for me if you really want to thank me"
I forced a weak smile.
Then I turned off the lights and dozed off for a while.
The clock went on ticking....
