8 ○ Umbrella Academy

Prologue

On the twelth hour of the first day of October 1989, 43 women around the world gave birth. This was unusual only in the fact that none of these women had been pregnant when the day first began. Sir Reginald Hargreeves, eccentric billionaire and adventurer, resolved to locate and adopt as many of these children as possible. He got eight of them.

○Today

I often got pain through the link, sometimes if the wounds were bad enough, I'd be left with a bruise. But this time, the pain was different. Other than the pain or the occassional loud outcries, I didn't hear anything from Diego since I moved out, never felt his emotion this strongly since then either. Ada...

I didn't get to respond, my mind filled with the image of a Breaking News headline: Sir Reginald Hargreeves is Dead. I took a deep breath and blinked away the image, everything but the photograph of our father fading from my vision. So the old man kicked the bucket... Time to get packing then.

With a heavy sigh, I moved about leisurely, not wholly content with this string of events. I had found solitude here, far enough away from anywhere that the only thoughts I picked up were those of occassional drivers passing through this part of the woods or Diego's. I wasn't ready to go back to the mansion, that damned Umbrella Academy, wasn't ready to face my five siblings. But when family calls, you kinda have to answer.

At least with this family.
