Dianne's POV
I get through the first few lessons and break, which I spent by myself. I didn't expect anything else though. I mean, who would want to spend time with me? I'm the new kid with the weird accent to everyone else probably.
The boys from the bus seem to be in nearly all of my lessons. They're the ones always causing attention, and the teachers keep picking on them. It's funny when they don't know something and I do, but I try not to laugh. Sometimes I can't help it though.
Everyone seems to be avoiding me apart from one girl. Well, she's still sort of avoiding me. She's not coming up to me, but she's smiled at me and at least acknowledged my existence. Which is more that can be said for the rest of the year.
It's now Period 4, PE. I head over to the changing rooms and find myself a corner where nobody is. Then, all of a sudden, I get tapped on the shoulder, rather hard.
"Excuse me?" the girl says. She is caked in make-up and her voice is rather harsh.
"Er, sorry," I say hastily, picking up my bags and attempting to move over.
"The name's Yasmin," Yasmin says. "And these are Marie and Grace. You'll soon learn that if you want to survive at school, you'll stay away from us."
I go to move but one of the girls, Grace or Marie, grabs hold of my hair and yanks it hard. I try not to react, but I flinch away out of instinct.
"Aw, is the little Aussie scared," she says, in a mock baby voice. I try to move away but she just gets a harder grip on me.
"Grace, chuck me your drink," Yasmin says. Grace passes over her drink and Yasmin unscrews the lid, Marie still gripping tightly onto my hair. Yasmin then tips the remainder of the drink over my head, so that it starts to drip and makes me smell slightly of juice.
"It's your own fault," Grace says. Marie finally lets go of my hair, but kicks me. I then move away, but trip over Yasmin's legs as I'm at it.
"Go back to Australia where you belong!" Marie shouts. I want to break down into tears but I'm not going to do that here.
"Ignore them."
I turn around to see the girl who smiled at me earlier standing next to me.
"I would've got involved, only I don't exactly have the best history with them and well, it's complicated."
"It's fine, thank you," I say. "I'm Dianne."
"I'm Anna," Anna introduces. I put my bag down on the bench next to her. "I hate PE. I'm always by myself."
"Are you new too?" I ask, as I begin to get changed. I also try to squeeze out the juice from my hair. It's all sticky, and smells badly.
"No. I just got into a massive argument with Yasmin, Grace and Marie, so everyone in this class hates me," Anna says. "Either that or they're scared of the consequences of what will happen if they speak to me. Yasmin, Grace and Marie have a lot of control here."
"I can tell," I say. Anna helps me with my hair and we damp it down with water to try and get rid of the smell. We arrive to the lesson a few minutes late, but the teacher just brushes it off, probably because I'm new.
PE goes alright. I just try and avoid everyone that isn't Anna. Then it's lunch and we manage to scramble through everyone else and join the line for the canteen. At least I've managed to find someone who doesn't despise me.
Joe's POV
I sit down at our usual place and wait for all the other boys to catch up. It's lunch finally, and we've just had PE, so everyone is worn out apart from me, as it was rugby and I'm used to that. Mikey is the last to arrive, and he looks like he's about to pass out.
"Geez mate," Jack says. "You look dreadful."
"Thanks for the honesty," Mikey says, rolling his eyes.
"As they say, honesty is the best policy," Jack grins. "Joe, isn't that your redhead from before? The one in our classes? With Anna?"
"She's not my redhead," I say, but I do see the girl with Jack and Conor's sister. I zone out without realising it, my eyes pinned on the girl.
"Er, earth to Joseph?" Conor says, smacking me on the head. He then runs up to his sister and steals her water from her bag. The pair chase each other around, Anna's friend looking perplexed but also finding the whole thing amusing. Conor then stops to introduce himself to the new girl, before the pair head off and Conor comes back to us.
"I thought we agreed we wouldn't talk to her. Why would we? We have an image to keep up," Oli says.
"I was just being nice," Conor says.
"Softie," Jack teases. In a way, I agree with Oli. Why should we talk to the new girl? She's not our responsibility, and I don't want her to be. But then again, maybe we could change.
Who am I kidding? I'm Joe Sugg. Why would I talk to the new kid?
