Chapter 16

Joe's POV

The teacher leads us away, and then she knocks on the door to my head of house office. I also happen to be in the same house as Katya and Josh, so that worked out well... I think. I tense up and keep hold of Dianne's hand tight. If I'm tense, I can't imagine what she's feeling.

"Ah, right, boys. And girls it seems. What's happened now?" Mr Johnson, my head of house, says.

"There was a fight I think," the teacher that lead us here says. "I'll leave you with the group."

The teacher heads off and we all crowd around into the office. I let Dianne sit down, and Josh and Mikey grab the other two chairs. The rest of us gather behind, and I put my hands on Dianne's shoulders.

"So," Mr Johnson starts. "What happened?"

Everybody all starts to speak at once. I try to say about how Katya had been hating on Dianne, and that she also attacked Josh, but it doesn't get heard in all the babble.

"Everyone stop!" Mr Johnson shouts. "One at a time please. Er, Mr Pieters, let's start with you."

"A few days ago, I was walking home, and Katya and possibly a couple of other girls came up and attacked me. It was so bad that they knocked me unconscious, and I had to go to hospital," Josh says. "And then to top it off, Katya had started hating on Dianne, saying things along the lines of that she was worthless, which obviously isn't true. Then she spat at Dianne."

"Which one is Dianne?" Mr Johnson asks. The redhead raises her hand slightly.

"Is this true? Was Katya hating on you?" Mr Johnson asks.

"Yes," Dianne squeaks, and I stoke her shoulder soothingly.

"And if you don't mind me asking, what did she say?"

"Well, it was saying that I'm worthless and that I don't deserve Joe and that he can do so much better than me," Dianne mumbles.

"And she rolled her eyes at Dianne and gave her looks," Mikey adds.

"I did not!" Katya exclaims.

"Er, yes you did!" Conor says, getting involved.

"And which ones of you then went on to attack Katya?" Mr Johnson asks.

"I did," I say. I don't mind admitting it, because I was protecting Dianne. I'd do anything to keep her safe.

"And me," Josh says. "And Mikey and Caspar."

"And the rest of you were eyewitnesses?" Mr Johnson checks. They all agree to that. "And did anybody see what happened with Mr Pieters and Ms Jones?" (Katya's surname obviously wouldn't be Jones at this point, but it's some Russian name that would be hard to understand and write, so we'll go with this. Also that's no hate on Russian name's, but this will be easier. Ok, back to the story!)

"Well, maybe some random people, but we have no way of knowing who they are," Josh says.

Mr Johnson seems to be thinking about all this. Dianne looks around at me, and I smile at her. It will all be ok. I just want her to hear that, but sadly, we lack the ability to be telepathic.

"But Josh definitely did go to hospital," Byron says. "You can check the medical files and records or whatever if you need proof."

"No, I believe he went to hospital. That's why he wasn't at school for a couple of days," Mr Johnson says. Josh's mum must've rung them afterwards to inform them.

"Um, excuse me?" Katya says, but rather forcefully. "But I'm injured here. Can I like not get an ice pack or something?"

"Er, the two boys at the back there," Mr Johnson says, indicating Jack and Oli, "can you go and get an ice pack for Ms Jones?"

Jack and Oli nod and leave the room.

Amy's POV

"AJ likes Jack!" I exclaim. "That's amazing."

"But what if Jack doesn't feel the same way?" AJ asks.

"He could be straight after all, I guess," Lauren points out.

"Whatever happens, something's up with Jack, and we need to find out," Chloe says.

"How about we move somewhere else?" I suggest, looking around. Everyone seems to be staring at us and giving us weird looks because of the fight that happened.

"Yeah, I think that would be best," Lauren says, we head inside, and I then see Jack and Oli coming out of an office.

"Jack! Oli!" I shout. "What's happening?"

Jack and Oli come over to us, and we gather around the student services area.

"Mr Johnson is just asking a bunch of questions," Jack says. "And Katya claimed she didn't hurt Josh."

"But she did," Lauren says. "She practically admitted it herself, by the way she was acting."

"I know," Oli says. "But then she asked for an ice pack so me and Jack were sent out to get it."

I see AJ looking at Jack, and they both smile at each other, not paying attention to Oli and the rest of us. I think Jack likes AJ, but I don't want to claim something like that as I haven't known them long.

"Anyway, we should probably head back in," Oli says. They leave us to grab the ice pack, and then head back inside the office.

"Jack likes you," Chloe smiles. "I can just tell."

Dianne's POV

Jack and Oli come back in and hand Katya the ice pack, then resume their space at the back of the room. There's a lot of us in here as it's quite a small room, and it's cramped, but I don't mind if it sorts this out.

"Can I add something?" Oli asks. I look up at him, confused. Joe starts rubbing my shoulders again to try and calm me, and it works.

"Of course," Mr Johnson says.

"When Katya came over to us earlier she smirked when Josh mentioned the attack, which is like she knows it was her."

Mr Johnson then looks at Katya, who was smirking again at Josh and Oli.

"See, just like that," Caspar adds.

"It does seem to add up," Mr Johnson admits.

"And she was definitely saying things about Dianne," Byron says. "Ask Amy Dowden, Chloe Hewitt or Lauren Steadman too. They saw and can back us up."

"I think I have all the information I need," Mr Johnson says. "Mr Pieters, Mr Sugg, Mr Lee and Mr Pearce, you will all serve a detention for attacking Ms Jones."

"What?" Joe shouts. "But she-"

"Silence," Mr Johnson cuts him off. "It will only be half an hour after school, and that will be it. Ms Jones, you will be suspended for the time being, as knocking someone unconscious is a serious crime. And I apologise for Mr Pieters as he did get attacked, but rules are rules. And sorry, er, Dianne, for what Katya said. Now you may all go, apart from Ms Jones."

We all get out of the office and re-join with Amy, Chloe, Lauren and AJ.

"Caspar, Mikey, Josh and Joe got detention," Jack says.

"But Katya's being suspended," Joe says. "And if detention is the price I had to pay, so be it. I'd do anything for Dianne."

I lean into Joe and he puts an arm around me. What did I do to deserve this boy?
