Joe's POV

"Dianne!" I shout, running after her. I catch up with her down an alleyway, where she slides down the wall and cries into her hands.

"I thought she was my friend," she sobs. "I trusted her. Not that what she said wasn't true but-"

"Dianne! Course it wasn't true!" I interrupt. Dianne just sniffs and cries into my shirt. How can I tell her that what Katya said is just completely false? How could she think that was true?

"Di please, it wasn't true," I say. "If anything, you deserve better than me."

"No, it's you that deserves better," Dianne whispers. I tilt her chin up.

"Dianne Claire Buswell I will not be having you say that," I state. "You are amazing and beautiful and perfect and talented and-"

"Dianne!"

Jack, Byron and Oli come over, as they were the only ones who hadn't left yet.

"Oh Dianne don't listen to that bitch," Byron says. "She's just too full of herself."

I let Dianne cuddle further into me. It doesn't even matter that we're sitting on in the middle of an alleyway. All that matters is that Dianne's ok, and she realises that she is loved by so many.

Dianne's POV

After a couple of minutes or so I feel better. Katya may not think I'm anything, but at least there are some people that do. I get up off the floor and brush myself down.

"Better?" Oli checks. I nod.

"How about we go and get some ice-cream before we head home?" Joe suggests. My face lights up. Ice-cream always makes me feel better. It's one of those comfort foods.

"I'm guessing that's a yes," Jack laughs. We head over to the nearest ice-cream parlour and slide into one of the booths. Byron gets some menus and then comes back over to us.

"I'll pay for you," Joe offers.

"I want to refuse, but I don't actually have any money," I laugh. "I'll buy something cheap."

"No, don't worry," Joe says. "Take your pick. If anything I'll just sneak some of Zoe's money when I get back!"

I laugh and scan through the menu. After a while, I settle on an Oreo Sundae.

"Wait," Oli says. "Is it just me or does everyone else recognise that waiter?"

I look across. He looks around our age and has messy hair that looks like it's tried to be slicked back but failed. He's quite short, and I definitely recognise him from somewhere.

"Doesn't he go to our school?" Jack asks.

"Oh, wait, yeah, I think he does," Oli says. The boy comes over at us and asks for our orders. Whilst I'm saying mine, I catch the name on the name tag. AJ.

When AJ leaves I turn to the others.

"So he's AJ, goes to our school," I start. "What's the big deal?"

"Nothing I was just intrigued," Oli says, but I see that Jack is still looking at AJ. "Er, Earth to Jack?"

"Sorry, I just zoned out," Jack says. I can tell that the other's aren't entirely convinced, but Byron changes the subject.

"Right, so what are we doing about Katya?" he asks. "We can't let her treat Dianne like that."

"Send her away to Yasmin, Grace and Marie," I sigh.

"And what? Let them attack her?" Jack asks. I shrug.

"Dianne Buswell!" Oli exclaims. "We do not tolerate violence!"

I laugh. AJ then brings us our ice-cream and Jack 'zones out' again. There is definitely something up with him, but I don't want to seem rude, so I don't question it.

"I'll pay you back tomorrow," I tell Joe.

"No, Di, I'm paying," Joe insists. I sigh.

"If you're sure."

Oli is the first to finish, practically shoving the whole thing down his throat without taking a breath.

"What a waste!" I joke.

"You've barely even started!" Oli adds.

"I'm just a slow eater!" I defend.

"Like a tortoise," I hear Oli mumble, and I giggle, nearly choking on my ice-cream.

"Be careful," Joe says, being the overprotective boyfriend that he is.

"I'm fine!" I say.

We all finish up our Sundaes (I finish last, unsurprisingly), and then the boys cough up some money and pay.

"Feeling better?" Joe asks, putting his arm around my shoulders as we walk out.

"Much better, thank you," I say.

"Right, we should be heading back," Oli says. "I'll see you all tomorrow at school."

"Don't take what Katya said to heart," Byron says. "We'll deal with her tomorrow."

"Mm, take care Di," Jack says, but I think he zoned out again.

"What about me?" Joe asks.

"Yeah, I guess you too," Jack sighs, laughing. I start heading home to my house, but I can't help wondering what was up with Jack.
