Bobby helped Erin into her truck, and dried her tears as she sobbed. She was going to stay with him, for an indefinite amount of time. He was worried about sending her off with Dean, he knew better. Dean didn't do feelings, like she needed.
Dean gave Erin a hug, and smoothed down the hair on the back of her head, when she began to sob again. "Sh." He told her. "Things will get better for you." Even though he was sure that things wouldn't get better for either of them, he knew she needed to hear it, specifically from him.
After Bobby was driving back up the dirt path that led them to the heartache, Dean got into his own car. He cleaned Ariel's round frames, and placed them into his glove compartment. Castiel got into the car, and they drove off behind Bobby, until they hit the road. They took a different path, driving away from the reminders of their hurt.
Dean was hurt, and angry, and conflicted. Why did everyone get to come back, beside his siblings? He was happy they came back, but why was Ariel still gone? Why did Sam have to sacrifice himself? "What are you going to do now?" He directed towards Castiel, thinking he had to know. He had an inkling they were all going to go their separate ways, though.
"Return to Heaven, I suppose." Castiel didn't move from looking out the window. His soul ached, terribly. She was gone, he couldn't feel her anywhere. He hoped he would be able to find her in Heaven and see her again. He wouldn't stop until he saw her again.
Dean scoffed, rolling his eyes. "God gives you a brand-new, shiny set of wings, and suddenly you're his bitch again? After everything he did?" Dean had to refrain from slamming his fist angrily against the steering wheel. "Well, if you see him, you tell him I'm coming for him next."
"You're angry." Castiel stated, finally turning to look at him.
"And you're not? He brought you back, but Ariel? She's dead, he's left her dead, gone! And Sam?" He blinked back his tears rapidly. "Sam's in the hole with Lucifer!" He couldn't hold back, he slammed his fist down on the steering wheel, feeling the skin split sightly from the force. "They are both gone, and I can't bring them back." His wall began to crumble slightly.
"You got what you asked for, Dean." Castiel spoke softly. Dean was wrong, he was angry. But he planned to use that anger to fuel his quest to find her, he had to. If he never saw her again he didn't know what he'd do. "No paradise, no Hell. Just more of the same. Of course people lost their lives, that's the price to pay. I'm serious, Dean, what would you rather have? Peace or freedom?"
Before Dean could respond, the rapid fluttering of wings indicated the angel had left. Dean sighed, and pulled his car up to a dark, suburban house. He put his head in his hands, and steadied his breathing. He reached into the glove compartment to find Ariel's glasses, only to come up empty.
"Damn it." He whispered, Knowing Castiel had to have taken them.
The darkened field stood quiet, seeming to be untouched by the events that had happened only hours before. Unknowing of the pain and loss that took place on its very soil, changing lives. In it's center laid a still body, illuminated by the moonlight. Pale skin seeming to glow, red hair surrounding her, much like a halo. Her eye's remained closed, but it hadn't mattered. Even if they were open, they wouldn't be able to see, even in a brightly lit area.
Castiel stood on the outskirts of the field, feeling himself being pulled towards the center. Something, someone was calling him there. "You're alive." He gasped, and slowly approached the body, afraid it'd suddenly disappear if he moved too fast. "You're alive." He repeated. He kneeled down beside her, placing his hand gently on her cheek.
The pressure on her face caused her eye's to fly open, her blue irises shining brightly as she stared up into his, shock covering her face.
Castiel slowly helped her sit up, then placed a hand on the small of her back to help support her. "How?"
She coughed into her elbow, weakly. "I don't remember anything. I remember seeing you die, then that's it." She squinted up at him, struggling to see. "You were dead."
Castiel reached into the inside pocket of his jacket, and pulled out her glasses, slowly placing them on her nose. "I was. But now I'm back." He pulled her into a hug, and placed a long kiss to her forehead. "God brought me back."
Ariel gasped, and pulled out of Castiel's grasp, looking up at him. "I saw God."
