Years passed and the Allfather's visits became less and less frequent until I stopped seeing the family altogether. I grew into a blossuming young woman who neither wanted to play dress up and entertain men nor don the armor of battle. My solace was found in books, most notably spell books and historic texts. As with any child within a prominent family, however, the talk of marriage became most prevalent. I, however, had never pursued a romantic endeavor without it ending badly. Perhaps that mattered not in the long run, though, as I would surely be auctioned off in a merger that would secure my family's position for much longer. As the only child my father had, marrying into status was his dream for me. Unfortunately for me, that left little room for voicing my own desires.

Stepping up to the door of the mess hall, I brushed a copper curl from my eye. The guards pulled the heavy doors and escorted me inside. Thor stood at the entrance, smiling in a familiar charming way. Though I hadn't seen him in ages, he was still very much the boy from before. "Lady Sigyn." He broke the silence as we took our seats at one end of the long table. "Your majesty." I returned. "Oh, no. For an old friend, It's simply Thor." His meaty hand gripped his goblet and he took a swig of the wine it held. I, at a loss for words, did the same. Once we got past the usual smalltalk that these dinners involved, as well as a few drinks, we began to loosen up. We chatted about the old days and the fun we used to have. It was obvious that we both remembered each other fondly. Still, it felt just like that, a fond and friendly conversation. Though it was undoubtedly a whole lot more enjoyable than the other dates i'd been on in this husband hunt, I still couldn't help but mention how ridiculous this felt. He chuckled, wholeheartedly agreeing. "Could it, though, be a terrible idea to end the search here?" Confused, I just tilted my head. "We are both stuck in a position, one that forces us to choose between our own desires and our duties to our families." He continued. "Perhaps we marry and live in a mutually beneficial friendship." My brows furrowed instinctively. "And what of love?" Thor's shoulders bounced in indifference. "I'm sure that we will come to love each other in time. That's not the priority at the moment, though, is it? Otherwise, you wouldn't be rushing to pick a suitor." His boldness almost disgusted me, but unfortunately he was right. I would have had more freedom and status if I married a friend, especially one of his degree. Plus, that would leave me with more than enough time and money to delve into my own pursuits. "So." He continued without waiting for my response, dropping to a knee. "Would you do me the honor of becoming my wife?" I hesitated, but I knew that there would be no chance of me denying his request.
