hush now it's easy
to pretend you're dying
when you're too scared to be
fully alive you
held your heart dripping
in your claws and you squeezed and squeezed
until it was everywhere everything
scarlet darling you
moaning in the night when the
hollow spot
burns
you because you can't take feelings
out of your body you can't
unlearn emotions break the nerveholds
around your chest if you tattoo
the reminders on your skin
it will not make the pain go away
so swallow
your battered heart and let
your hands grow heavy if you relax
the blockages will ease up and you
will hold yourself steady it's like learning
how to walk only you're taller and your body
is harder than it used to be but if you follow
the trails of the words i laid down
for you you will remember
how sweet the sunsets taste
