"It's your last day here. How do you feel?"
"Honestly, I think I'm ready to start over. I'm not trapped in the 'house' feeling as though I can't escape; I am free. I feel reborn in a sense."
Dr. Finn smiles at me in delight as he is pleased to see the progress I have made in the months that I have been here.
"Well then, I believe it is time for you to go home and spread your wings Ivy." He stands signaling that the session is over. I rise and shake his hand. Heading towards the door I pause for a second and give Dr. Finn a final smile as this is goodbye to a very important chapter in my life. In the lobby of Spring Valley Rehabilitation Center where they treat teenagers for my condition I saw my parents from afar. I can see my father sitting while his knee bounces up and down while my mother paces the room. Both of them are my biggest supporters throughout this whole journey. My mother was the first to notice me watching them and ran over almost knocking me down.
"Mom!" I laugh as she starts double checking me as if to make sure I was real.
"Is everything okay? Are you ready to go? Are you hungry? You look hungry. We should get you some food. What do you want?" She asked me all in a matter of seconds.
"Breathe honey! She's fine. Look at her. Now stop fussing." My dad said coming to my rescue. He gave me a tight hug, letting out a huge breath of relief. Typical of him to pretend he wasn't worried when in fact he was two seconds away from a potential heart attack.
"I know Stuart. I'm just worried about my baby." Her eyes glistening with unshed tears.
"Mom I'm great I promise. I'm ready to go home." With that said my parents went to sign my discharge papers while I went to pack my bag. Once it was all done we walked outside to the car. Taking only a few steps out of Spring Valley I froze. Looking up at the sky I realize this is where my new life begins. No more nightmares, no more crying, no more of him. I will not let anything get in the way of my new life. My second chance.
"You okay sweetie?" Dad's voice snapping me out of my euphoria.
"I'm great." I said truly. Getting in the car I expected dad to drive as fast as he can out of this place, but no one moved. In fact my parents just stared at me.
"What's wrong?" Questioning my mother's frantic expression.
"Ivy, we want you to have a fresh start just like your doctors said. And a fresh start means a new school. We know he was expelled and you wouldn't see him anymore at your old school. But we felt that with our recent move into the new house while you were in rehab it deserved a new school. That way you can be surrounded by new faces and not get any thoughts back to..." She trailed off. "Well you get the point. We transferred you over to Bradford High School." She sat there waiting nervously unsure on how I would react.
"I think that's a great idea mom. You're right." Both of them looked relieved that I was happy about the change. Dad started the car and we made our way home.
