"This is a sorta odd date." I sigh.
"Your sisters engagement party isn't odd." he laughs. "Grace do you feel odd." he turns to her.
"Not at all dad." she smiles. "Do you feel odd Chris." she tickles him in his chair .
"No." he giggles.
"Now if Cat could talk she wouldn't feel odd either." he assures me and parks the car. I take Chris out of his seat and Grace takes his hand to walk inside. I take Catherine and close the door. "Isn't this easy." Josh laughs and leads me in.
The 5 of us walk in and sit at one of the tables. It's been a month since Veronica announced her big engagement and my mom planned her this engagement party. My mom walks over to our table and smiles. "Kinda extravagant for an engagement don't you think." I tease her.
"Oh shush you." She scolds me and hugs Chris and Grace. "Don't you look adorable Grace." she straightens her dress.
"Thanks I picked out this dress all by myself." she nods and smiles.
"That's great." my mom pinches her cheek and walks away.
"How much you think your mom payed to rent out this restaurant." Josh asks.
"Not sure but she could've done this little party at her house." I tell him.
"Well I would celebrate too if a 33 year old woman was finally getting married." he jokes and I laugh.
"I guess your right, I mean she's pretty old, you're old too." I nudge his arm.
"I'm not old I'm 29, only a year old than you." he laughs.
"Yeah but your turning 30 in April." I remind him.
"And you turn 29 in June!" He gasps.
"And I'm turning 11 in June too." Grace raises her hand. "And Chris' birthday is next week." she high fives him.
"Three years old." Chris slams the table.
It's not only been a month since her engagement but Josh asked me out on the 15th. We've all gotten along so great that it seems too perfect. Grace is one of the greatest girls I hope Catherine becomes like her and it's a plus that her and Chris have gotten along so well. We look like a small family and it's quite adorable.
"Hey look they're walking in." Josh shakes me and I look at the door.
Veronica and Phil walk in hand and hand and everyone starts clapping. "There's like what 50 people here." I whisper to him.
"I think it's closer to 51." he smiles.
"Oh shut up." I smack his hand.
"Shush they're about to talk." he pushes a finger to my lips.
"Ok." I mumble and he laughs.
Veronica walks center and my mom hands her the mic. "Is this on." she taps the microphone and starts speaking. "First of all thank you all for coming because this is truly an amazing celebration." she says and people clap. "I know what most of you are thinking and yes I agree it's about time I get engaged." she jokes and everyone in the room laughs, including myself.
"Boy isn't that the truth." I hear Dan yell and the room fills with laughter once again.
"Man she's a heavy sleeper." Josh looks down at Catherine in her seat.
"Please don't jinx it." I push him.
"Nope still asleep." he smiles and grabs my hand.
"Now I won't make a big speech because I will save that for the wedding but what I will say is it will be a winter wedding so save the date December 14 in your calendars." She finishes and hands the mic to Phil.
"What she said." he shakes his head and we laugh.
Veronica and Phil take their time to walk around and greet themselves to everyone. They Finally reach our table. "Bethany nice to see Josh dragged you out." she laughs.
"Well I rather be watching a movie but hey this is the second best choice." I shrug and stand up.
"Josh nice to see you and Grace." she smiles at the two. Josh stands and he manages to over look Phil.
"Congrats dude." he slaps his back and Phil nervously laughs.
"Haha thanks I think." he nods his head.
"What do you mean you think you got second prize." he jokes. "But I'm taking this first prize with me." he laughs and points to me.
"I've always been first prize." I add to Josh's joke. "But yeah get excited Phil." I nod my head.
"Yup Bethany defiantly is a prize." he frowns slightly.
"Speaking of prizes how about being one of my brides maid." Veronica asks.
"Uh sorry sis but you know no." I sigh.
"Why not." she gasp.
"I just don't feel like it." I laugh and Josh chuckles.
"So nice of you." he whispers in my ear.
"Come on you would be maid of honor." she whines.
"That means I would have to plan a bunch of crap." I scrunch my brows.
"Bethany please." she pleads again.
"Perhaps." I roll my eyes.
"Come on yes or no." she sighs.
"No Veronica I want to sit in the stands." I laugh.
"Fine but you'll have to still look nicer than everybody." she sternly points at me.
"That won't be an issue." Josh pats my knee. I look up at Veronica and Phil stares at me.
"But you are still going to my dress search tomorrow right." she looks down.
"I don't know I have Cat and Chris to take care of." I murmured.
"Don't worry I can take care of them." Josh smiles at me.
"Josh can take care of them." Veronica shakes her head up and down.
"Oh come on it's no problem go with Veronica." he nods. "Grace wouldn't we like Chris and Catherine over tomorrow." he looks over to the two.
"Heck yeah." she laughs.
"And my sister is visiting tomorrow so I'll have the extra hand." he assures me.
"Fine whatever I'll go with you." I surrender and Veronica hugs me.
"Don't worry it'll be fun, Phil's sister is going too." she tells me.
"Didn't know you had a sister." I laugh and look at him.
"Uh yeah I never really brought her up at all." he stutters. "I think she's over there." he slowly nods.
"Well I'll have to meet her tomorrow." I smile and Phil finally smiles back.
"Fantastic." he breathes out.
