I walked back out to Philip and Fallon as they worked on the beat up car, covered in mud and dents. Philip had a huge smear of oil on his face and I couldn't help but laugh, much to his dismay, before I grabbed a cloth and rinsed it in fresh water.
"Here." I said, "Clean your face, you look dumb."
He snatched the cloth out of my hand, "Whatever. Thanks I guess." He grumbled as he rubbed his face.
"No problem at all. Anyway, I brought some lunch. Let's take a break. Hey! Fallon!"
"Hey! Did someone say lunch?!"
I grinned, "Yeah! Let's eat!"-
I laid in the bath for longer than I probably should have, but even after I had dressed and began to dry my hair - Dorothea still hadn't come in. I shrugged it off, figuring she was focusing on more important matters, before placing a small towel around my neck and stepping out of the baths to head back to my room.
Philip was walking by as I did, and I stiffened at the sight of him, seemingly in an angry daze.
"Philip? Is everything alright?"
"Oh- Ariel. Hey. Everything's fine." He replied bluntly.
"Are you sure?" I pestered, knowing that he would do that same thing for me.
He sighed heavily, turning away from me completely but not moving a step, "Ariel... why did you become a jaeger?"
"It's in my blood." I replied with a slight frown, "It's who I am, it's the only thing I'm good at, the only thing I'm meant for."
"You really think that? That fighting and killing vampires is all your good for?"
I turned from the back of his head to the floor in front of me, not really sure how to reply.
"Because you're not. You're so much more than that."
"I believe you, Philip, but I... I don't know what 'more' I could possibly be."
It was silent for a while, and I stood still waiting for him to walk off before I made my own way back to my room.
His footsteps began, but they started to become louder instead of faint, and my eyes widened as he placed a hand on my shoulder. I turned to look at him, he was about my height if not just a tinge shorter, and he pulled me into a small and light embrace.
"You're more than a Jaeger, Ariel. You're a friend - and even more than that. Don't forget it, that we all need you, and not just for your skill."
I blinked back a set of tears, "Thank you, Philip..."
"Now come on!" He smiled, leaning back, "Lets go to the lounge and play some cards or somethin!"
"Okay!" I smiled in return, feeling so much better with him by my side.-
"The professors still not back." Fallon yawned, looking tiredly at his cards as I tried to peak over his shoulder.
"Think he's still at the bar this late?" Philip asked.
"Hey!" Fallon glared at me and I sighed, leaning back in defeat.
"Professor?" Dorothea called out through the phone, pausing our card game as all of us, including Yuliy, glanced over in silence to listen.
"Yes... yes. I understand, you be careful too." After hanging up the phone, she turned to us with a hard gaze, "The vampires are headed here."
My guard shot up and I quickly reminded myself where my weapons and most important keep sakes were.
"Alright." Fallon stood and stretched, suddenly very awake.
"At least we don't have to go looking for them anymore!" Philip smirked.
"Get a head count and evacuate the mansion, then, set traps on exits and entrances."
"Got it." Philip and I said together, following each other in a run out the door.
I pulled on my jacket and picked up my extra sword, thinking of the worst - for if the vampires knew that we were here they no doubt came to take us out in one blow.
They aren't all stupid, they won't underestimate us.
"Ariel, lets go!"
"Right!" I left my room, sheathing my swords behind my back as the lights went out.
I jogged beside Philip, wishing him good luck before we separated - him with Yuliy and me with Dorothea and Fallon.
"Be careful!" Philip called after me.
"You too!"
"Come on, hurry!" Dorothea called, tugging me down beside her, "I'm sure you'll see each other again soon."
I smiled in thanks, and it quickly fell as a sound like thunder boomed - a trap gone off. At first, there was silence, and for a second Dorothea thought that was it, but as they crashed through the windows two at a time I jumped forward to take out the front lines, being sure to stick close to Dorothea and Fallon as more and more came.
"Retreat!"
I clenched my teeth, jumping up and flipping over the staircase railing and heading fast up the stairs as the vampires growled after us from below.
They definitely didn't underestimate us, they must have hundreds here just for the six of us.
I readjusted my grip on my blades as we stood at the end of the hall from the top of the stairs. Dorothea and Fallon shot down the enemy one by one and I had their backs from the few coming in from behind us.
"This is bad, my folks need me." I heard Fallon speak, "Still sending cash home."
"What? Don't you have life insurance?"
"That's not funny."
I growled, a few drops of blood landed on my cheek as I sliced off the vampires head.
This is who I am.
Who I was always meant to be.
"You're so much more than that."
I narrowed my eyes in thought, turning to look behind me just to check, and I smiled lightly at the thought of Philip.
Fighting for you, is far better than fighting just because this is the only thing that feels right to me - other than drawing of course.
And even then, I draw for you too.-
I huffed, just managing to catch my breath as we ran around the army firing relentlessly towards the vampires climbing the walls of the estates buildings. I sliced through the few that got close to us, but luck was now in our favour and we had a much better chance of meeting up with Philip and Yuliy.
"Yuliy!?" Dorothea called for the third time as we entered into the section they were originally placed.
"Up here!" I moved my head up, glad to see Yuliy alright, "Take care of Philip!"
My stomach dropped and I ignored the fact that Yuliy was probably running off to do something reckless again as I sheathed my blades and jumped two at a time up the stairs.
"Philip!" I cried, dropping to my knees as the boy wheezed lightly, a hand shaking over his bruised neck.
"Ari-Ariel..." He breathed, coughing slightly.
"Don't speak, you'll only hurt yourself more."
"Damn, that looks bad." Dorothea frowned, moving Philip's hand slightly to get a better look.
"Royals must be here..." I thought allowed, "Kirshner?" I asked, Philip nodding slightly.
"That's who Yuliy must have gone after." Fallon sighed, "We need to get some first aid equipment."
I nodded in agreement, a hand on Philip's shoulder, I gasped as he slipped out of my gently hold and crashed his head onto my shoulder, breathing heavily.
He groaned slightly, and I heard him curse hoarsely as well.
Dorothea smiled lightly as I glanced up at her with wide and nervous eyes.
"Take care of him, Ariel. Don't worry, the fights most likely over by now."
Thank goodness, I thought, turning back to Philip as his breathing steadied out.
"Your such an idiot Philip, I told you to be careful."
"Sorry..."The next day, we got a bit of rest and Philip and Yuliy were bandaged up and doing a lot better, even up to helping everyone with some clean up.
I giggled as we talked about random things, like our favourite type of dog as we worked. Philip was in a better mood than I thought he would be - In fact everyone was. I couldn't be too sure about Yuliy and the professor, knowing they went through quiet a lot last night, and they stayed a bit separate from all of us and talked amongst each other in further explanation of the truth of Yuliy's families fate.
None of us really knew the whole story, and I was even still confused about Yuliy's vampire brother, but I tried not to worry about it too much.
"I wonder what it's like to have a sibling." I mumbled to myself.
"Sometimes I think the same thing, and then Fallon messes up my hair and Dorothea makes this mean comment." Philip rolled his eyes, "And then I think - Yup, glad I don't have siblings."
I laughed, "Yeah, I guess your right! You really care a bit too much about your hair, don't you?"
"No! My hairs my best feature!" Philip claimed.
I rose a brow, "I don't think so."
"Then what is it?" He asked, raising a brow back at me in question.
I hummed lightly as I leaned in a bit closer to him, "I like your eyes best." And I left him blushing as I went to finish the task I had at hand.-
Dorothea was a bit disappointed at our supposed laziness when she saw us sitting in the lounge chatting, claiming we barley helped clean up.
I frowned, at least she didn't yell like my mother, but even still it was a bit annoying.
It really is like having a sibling...
"I worked hard considering what happened yesterday." Philip defended, "Can't you see that I'm injured? Oh! So is Yuliy."
I blinked, shocked to see the blonde smiling fondly at the older male he used to frown at and call 'dog'.
"Yeah, but I'm actually feeling a lot better today."
"For real? I dunno how your body manages all that."
"No idea?" Yuliy chuckled, shrugging slightly.
They're cute together... I thought, no, no, you like Philip remember? Don't start shipping him with Yuliy you weirdo. The professor came back about an hour later, claiming that headquarters had demanded our return to London, much to Fallon's dismay - but I sat up straighter in my chair and Philip jumped right up in excitement.
Fallon protested, but headquarters word is absolute.
"What, you don't like my country?" Philip frowned.
"No, I just don't like the food." Fallon sighed.
"What?! It's practically the same as yours!"
"It's way different!"
"I like London best." I commented, smiling lightly as Philip puffed his chest out slightly.
"Yeah see? Everyone's in favour of London anyways."
Fallon rolled his eyes.
"Is something wrong, Yuliy?" Dorothea suddenly asked.
"No." Yuliy gave a small, fake smile, and I blinked in confusion.
What was he just thinking about?
