The next day Lola goes back to school. Bella has to stay home but will likely return tomorrow. Lola stands next to Jessica: 'What's up?'
Lola was thinking about her sister: 'Nothing.' She answers. It's nothing she can explain or wants to. Bella starts to realise that something strange is going on with Edward. She wants to tell her what's going on, but it doesn't feel right to tell other people's secrets. She kept her own for so long. She never wanted to keep it a secret. It happened when they lived separately, and it's not something you tell someone over the phone.
'Do you know who you want to take to the spring dance?' Jessica asks curiously.
Lola looks up and says: 'You are a genius.' Bella likes Edward. He might not approach her because he is a vampire.
'I am?' Jessica asks and repeats her first question: 'Do you know with who you want to go?'
'Not really. What did he say?' She knew Jessica asked Mike.
Jessica looks at her feet: 'He didn't give me an answer; I think he wants to go with Bella.'
'She is going to say no.' She wouldn't go with Mike either way but might go with Edward. If he asks her.
'Are you sure?'
Lola nods: 'Yes.' She is going to talk to her sister tonight. 'I'm sure.'
Lola stands outside of Bella's room and knocks nervously. It's strange to fear your sister's reaction. If she is angry, she has every right to be. She should have told Bella sooner.
Bella looks up from a book: 'Hey.' She lays her book aside. 'If you're here to ask who I want to take to the spring dance, don't bother. Jessica already asked. She asked more than a few times.'
'Not really.' Lola says: 'I wanted to tell you something.' She is nervous. She just hopes Bella won't be mad.
'Are you ok?' Bella asks.
'There is something that I've been keeping a secret. Something happened, and I didn't know how to tell you?' Lola says. She doesn't dare to look at her sister. She sits down next to her on the bed.
'What is it?' Bella asks, sounding calm.
'I...' She doesn't know what to say. She holds her hands up, and they start glowing.
Bella moves backwards: 'Your hands? Are they....'
'It's not dangerous.' Lola says. 'I don't know why it started, but I found some journals that say it's something supernatural. If you want, you can read about it? Or ask anything you want.' She is afraid to look at Bella. What if she is scared or angry or both.
Lola feels a hand on her shoulder, and the glow goes away. It's Bella: 'It's ok.' She hugs her sister. 'I want to know more; I want to help you.'
'I never wanted to keep it a secret. I didn't know how to tell you.' Lola is relieved. She doesn't like secrets. She never told her friends about her magic; why would they believe her. With her sister, she couldn't imagine hiding it forever. They stay still for a few minutes: 'I'm sorry about Jessica.'
'Heuh?' Bella reacts.
'About the spring dance, she wants to ensure you won't take Mike.'
'You know I don't go to those events.' Bella says quietly.
'Maybe you should.' Lola suggests: 'Isn't there anyone you want to ask.' She asks: 'Don't you want to ask Edward?' Lola sees Bella's reaction when she mentions his name.
Bella stops smiling: 'I don't think he likes me. And I don't really want to talk about it.' Looking at her sister, she asks: 'And you?'
'I don't know.' Lola answers. She doesn't think it will work out. She doesn't know if she'll have the courage to ask him.
Jonah stands at his locker; he takes a schoolbook. It's the end of the day: 'Paul.' His friend stands behind him. 'I told you that I'm not going to the party.'
'I'm not saying anything.' Paul answers, looking back at Jonah. 'You don't know what you're missing.'
'He is spending time with her.' Jared says when he arrives. They all know who they're talking about.
'Oh yes, I forgot about it.' Paul laughs: 'Or I would if you didn't mention it like a billion times.'
'Just ask her out.' Jared says: 'What's the worst that can happen?'
Lola sits on her bed, looking out of the window.
'It's going to happen sooner than later.' Sam tells her over the phone.
Someone is going to transform and become part of the pack. There are signs, and they looked. At some more closely than others because of their bloodlines. 'Do you still think it is going to be him?' She says quietly. She doesn't want her best friend to become a wolf, but with his grandfather being the last Alpha. Jonah is the logical option. If not now, it's going to be later.
'No, it is not.'
Lola can't help but smile: 'Who do you think?'
'Jared', Sam answers.
'Jared Cameron?'
'Yes, maybe tomorrow or the day after. All the signs are there.'
