Why Do You Write Poetry?

I write poetry
To feel alive.
To turn the switch,
Set the car in drive.

To feel like I can fly,
To try to touch the sky,
To turn Monday night
Into a time to try.

To make my aching heart,
Once again churn blood in my veins,
Pulse through my fingers,
Change how I play the game.

To see my memories
Of how I felt and feel
Laid out in front of me,
Every single one so real.

I write poetry
To explore my dreams,
Imagine the unimaginable,
Rip open the seams.

My poetry
Is like a kind of spell
To turn dark into light
Or not quite such hell.

I write poetry,
Mostly when I'm sad,
When I'm lost or forgotten,
When I hurt too bad.

And do I feel any better?
I mean, sometimes.
But I let myself feel
Because it helps fill the lines.

Maybe I'll go crazy
From feeling too intensely.
But if I do it's okay,
Now I've lost all sensly.

My poetry, it's a glimpse into my brain,
It's kind of funny here inside,
But don't we all
Go a little mad sometimes.
