Cupcakes Are Better Than True Love

The sugar is a sprinkle of fairy dust.

A cupcake is better than true love.

The whir of a mixer rings.

The flour puffs up like a cloud of smoke.

The batter is just the taste of butter.

The almond extract smells like cherries.

Fingers stick together with a sugary goo.

It tastes like running your hands through his hair.

Remind yourself of that with a scoop of Milk and Cookies from Roxie's.

True love is better than a cupcake.

I mean, have you seen the way he looks at you?

Like you are his forever, ad nauseam.

Because you're the girl he met first, you're the only girl he knows.

"No one could compare to you anyway."

Says the sharp smile of not knowing any better.

Your heart sings like a prison-mate.

You jumped into a pool one summer and landed on the clouds.

Doodle needs to come down from there now.

She will find her way back to plant herself in the ground,

But a cracked tree does not hold water.

A person without water is just tough skin, but not tough enough.

Vale la pena tener momentos sin agua.

The clouds can't hold water forever,

So how could they hold you?

You must come down at some point,

In a downpour of rain,

Or a downpour of rage.
