She woke up to a phone call, her cell blaring into her ear. The caller ID read "Dina", so Cori knew it was probably nothing. But Dina wouldn't quit, the phone would never end. Cori answered the phone in frustration, mouth wide open in a tired yawn.
"Bitch, what do you want?" Cori growled, eyes half lidded as she waited for a response from the younger.
"You're late for school!" Dina yelled into the phone, instantly waking Cori up. She turned her head and saw the sleeping Louis. His state was enough to make her heart melt. His hands clasped together under his head, a faint smile on his lips from whatever he happened to be dreaming about. It was sweet, and made Cori want to call in sick. Though she knew that she shouldn't, and therefore got dressed and headed out. Leaving a note first, of course.
She was at school in no time, seeing her sister rushing in at just about the same time too. It made her laugh when she saw Niall watching Ricky hurry into school, eyes sparkling with affection.
She finally looked away and hurried to class, the one class that she had with Dina. But once she walked in she got a deep pain in her stomach and had to rush out, immediately. Luckily Dina had seen her in the doorway, and she quickly hopped up to help her sick friend.
When Dina entered the hallway she saw her friend's bag lying forlorn on the floor, Cori's head in a trashcan as she heaved and coughed in pain. Dina's eyes drooped sympathetically, she strolled over to Cori and placed a gentle hand on her back.
Cori wiped her mouth with the back of her hand, shivering violently as her eyes darted around the desolate hallway. She almost looked ashamed to have been caught like that, and she was. Throwing up isn't something people want to be seen doing, or at least she didn't think so.
"You okay?" Dina asked, her voice smooth to Cori's ears. Cori nodded, not daring to speak with such a sore throat. Dina dragged both backpacks towards the trashcan, knowing that Cori would want to leave as soon as possible.
"Can you drive yourself home?" Dina asked politely, watching her friend carefully to make sure that she wouldn't throw up again.
Cori once again nodded, still unable to talk with the incessant acidic burning in her throat. Dina took her by the arm and began leading her towards the office, backpack in hand, friend in the other. Cori didn't bother fighting back or saying that she could do it herself, because she wasn't sure that she actually could.
Cori signed herself out, even though she wasn't supposed to. She was in pain and couldn't finish the day like that, and wasn't going to try anyway. She hurled her backpack into her car, eyes drooped and arms heavy as she plopped on the driver's seat.
As her ignition revved to a start her CD started up, and most of the pain melted. Music always had that effect on her. It was her sister who taught her to listen to the music and lyrics that well, as a method of stress relief. Whether it was metal or pop, whatever you liked would help.
The drive seemed so fast while the music was playing, and the number of red lights was close to none. She was home and lying on her bed in no time, of course, after making a quick pit stop.
Cori pulled the little cardboard box from her pocket, reading the instructions on the side so she knew how to take the test. The little white stick would do the rest. She peeled open the box and walked into the bathroom, nerves shaking her.
Five minutes later a little pink plus was smiling at her, mocking her, and she let out a small yelp. Whether it was happiness or fear, she couldn't quite decipher. But she knew it was Louis', which made her smile grow and she couldn't help but push the thought of fear completely away.
