Chapter 8 - The Betrayal

After the Bali trip, we were more careful in our daily encounter in the office. I told Adrian about the night in Bali. We both agreed that we have to be more discreet. Instead of going off with Adrian from the office, I would take a cab to his place and he would send me back thereafter. We do not have a fixed schedule on when we meet during the working days. But we seem to slow down in our time together. From almost a daily meet those days, we now meet only two to three times during the weekdays. Secretly I had wanted us to go back to our daily routine. But Adrian told me that he was getting busier as he is involved in a confidential project. I reluctantly told him that I understand.

I began to depend more and more on Adrian. I now have Adrian to share my concerns with, be it work or the children. Adrian was a good listener. He seems to know when I would just want him to listen and when I need his advice.

I still wondered where our relationship is heading. I know I wanted to be with Adrian always. And I am hoping that Adrian would want the same as time goes by. I believe that when two persons spend more quality time together, the relationship would be so much more closer, as we would become more dependent on each other as we share more of our work, our thoughts. So I try to create a closer communication between us by sharing everything with Adrian and asking him in return about his work, his kid. But I knew that each time when we were alone together, I am the one that is more concerned in keeping our relationship closer. I try not to have any disagreement with him at all. Our limited time together was too precious to be wasted on petty disagreements.

Between us both, we had agreed that we would keep weekends and public holiday as free time with our own family, our own children. But secretly I had always been curious about how Adrian spends his weekend. Although weekend was his time with Marie, his daughter but I do know that it was only one of the weekend days that he can spend time with Marie. It could be on Saturday or Sunday, depending on Keira, his ex-wife’s schedule.

It was on the fateful Malaysia’s National Day, which was a public holiday that I discover how Adrian spends his weekends. Robert had taken Han to watch the parade. I was feeling kind of down in the morning when I got up and decided to stay home. Moreover, I don’t like big crowd. I can’t stand the pushing, the standing on tip toe, trying to get a glimpse of the parade. Robert had said that it wouldn’t be as long we are early. But I just refused to go. So they both left early at 6am so that they can find a seat on the platform, right in front of the parade.

I lazed back on the bed for a while after they left. I had got up with them to give a shower to Han and to dress him with blue and red colors outfit. Topped with a white and yellow colored cap. All colors of Malaysian flag. Robert said they would grab a McDonald’s on the way for their breakfast, as he wants to make sure he gets a good seat.

I looked at the clock and felt reckless. I thought of Adrian and suddenly a thought came to me. I jumped out of bed.

‘Yes, I should do this. I should do something out of the norm to keep our relationship exciting.’

I felt exhilarated with my smart thought as I rush to get myself ready to go out. I had this smart thought of surprising Adrian on this forbidden day.

‘He will be so happy to see me.’ I thought to myself.

Adrian has told me that he will be home as Kiera has taken Marie to Penang for a short holiday.

I walked out to the main road from my home and surprisingly it was easy to catch a cab. His car was in the driveway. I rang the doorbell. I sensed movement from his room, just above the porch. I waited. It seems to take longer than I thought. I rang again.

‘What is taking Adrian so long’, I wondered.

I could hear his familiar footsteps running down the stairs. Then Adrian opened the door. He looked dishevel but cute with his tousled hair.
