The world of werewolves is one we all are very familiar with. Living together in a community called a pack, they all hunt together, shift together, live together, and fight together. They are integrated in human society in many different ways, from the social city or suburban packs to the secluded urban and woodland packs. Throughout history, were's grew with humanity, making leaps in technology when they did, joining large companies in secret for other wolves, and shifting at night or somewhere secluded in nature. Lycanthropes exist, but only in rarity when True Mating decides to defy expectations as we come to know them.
If you don't know how the hierarchy works, we begin with the head of the packs. The Alpha. Strong physically, powerful in society, and popular amongst the community. They are lauded, highly regarded, and sought after by all who feel they are worthy. They call meetings, the accept challenges to their sovereignty, and they cause prosperity not only financially based on familial inheritance, but genetically have a duty to help packs prosper in reproduction should a problem in mating occur and no options are given. Though it is considered taboo, some alphas in history have taken more than one mate, even though polyamorous True Mating is rare. Needless to say, those that did were not entirely kind alphas, so the association is never a good one. Overall, your alpha is your king or queen.
The next in line of this heirarchy are your Luna's. These are second to the Alpha and are next in authority should the Alpha be unavailable. Though because of the submissive position, most packs refer next to the Beta in line, but if the Luna is proactive enough, they will be seen as leaders and therefore are the real next in lines. Your Luna can come from all kinds of backgrounds, from Omegas to Betas. Both the Alpha and the Luna can be challenged if they are seen as unfit and should they be seen as unfit, the Alpha must replace the Luna. They may keep the previous one as a mate, but the position must be passed to whoever the Alpha deems fit.
Beta's are the genuises of the packs. Having special connections to their wolves, these strategists, healers, financial advisers, architects, and lawmakers, etc., are usually second to the Alpha if the Luna is not present or passive in their role. It's not a shame or uncommon for Luna's to take a more passive role if they see their strengths lie elsewhere that benefits the pack. Beta's, unlike the Alpha and Luna, are not entirely dominant or submissive. They are what they wish themselves to be. A beta loses their position of Beta if they become Luna or if they can't fulfill the position of a Beta. An Alpha may choose as many Beta as they wish, though there seems to be a common number of four Betas in a pack. One for law, another for health, another battle strategy, and lastly, one for construction planning.
The Gammas are your bodyguards, your muscle, your soldiers, and anything to do with physical activity. They are many and all wolves willing to fight for the pack. And thankfully, so long as the Alpha is respectable and trustworthy, wolves instinctively are obliged to volunteer to protect their pack members, no matter the danger. You can probably guess that they are for the most part everyone in the pack.
Last, but never least, the Omega. The end of the pack heirarchy, but most prized. These are mostly where your women are and the very few men who are willing to allow their bodies to be taken for reproduction. Werewolves are strange creatures to a human outsider, no question. The woman could never produce a seed, but the man could produce an egg? Though the men can change their bodies to fit the need, this wasn't a route to be taken unless extinction of the pack was a threat. Needless to say, no Alpha ha seven heard of becoming Omega in body, but every other male pack member has in werewolf history. So traditionally, women are by default Omega, right? Wrong. The Omega are those who choose to be Omega. True, a woman cannot produce an heir, but they can take as high of a position as the Alpha if they are worthy of the title. And though male Omega are few, they used to be seen as inferior to every member of the pack because their role was so submissive and wouldn't strive for a higher position. You're no man, so you will be treated less than an animal. Luckily, common sense won and male Omega were seen as precious as the women associate with. As per usual, the society makes these your average twink and lady who wishes to make clothes, become chefs, artists, and such that entertains society.
This is your werewolf world. Simplistic outwardly, but oh so complicated like human beings underneath the stable structure. And like all people, everyone, even history itself, bears secrets and milestones unheard of even to our way of thinking. And so our story begins, with your misfit of an alpha and your closeted omega.......
