When we were almost to school, Gansey called me. I told Ivy to head onto Algebra without me.
"Just tell him I vomited," I told her when she asked for my excuse.
"You are your brother's sister," Ivy sighed, but still went into the school. I picked up the phone and put it to my ear. "Gansey, what in the world could you possibly want," I checked my watch, "two minutes before my first period?!"
"Hey, hey, calm down. Have you seen Parrish?"
"Adam?"
"Same difference."
"No, I haven't seen Adam today, Gance. Have you called the home phone?"
I heard Gansey sigh across the phone. "Yes, but his mom's not answering. I'm worried."
My mind was racing. Of course we knew what was going on with Adam and his father. I wish he would just come with Gansey and us, take our offers, you know? He's just too darn stubborn!
"Listen," I said, "I know it's hard. And I think we both know why Adam isn't by the mailboxes. I'll go and check on him after school, okay?"
I could basically see Gansey rubbing his hands over his face. "Fine, okay, you can. Just don't go alone, take Ivy or Ronan. If you're not home by 4:30, I'll go over there myself."
"Okay, I'll bring Ivy with me. She knows how to throw a hook, hehe."
We both said our goodbyes and hung up. I laid my back against the wall of the school, slowly sitting against it. Dang Adam, I thought, why do you do this to yourself...

"Miss Gansey," said Mr. Samuel as I walk into Algebra, ", why exactly are you late to class? The class that I've been telling you since Friday that you have a test in?"
I felt my face heat up from embarrassment and guilt.
     "W-Well, sir, I was... um..."
I hated the word puking with all my heart. I did indeed share that with my brother. The word disgusted me.
"... throwing up, sir." I finished. I heard several ew's from around the class, as well as some laughs.
"I suppose I should send you to the nurse then, Miss Gansey."
"Um, yes, sir. I know my way there."
I walked back out of the classroom, heaving my bag back onto my shoulder. Welp, looks like I'm skipping.
I take my phone out of my pocket and dial in Ronan's number. I knew he would be skipping class right now, he only goes to Latin.
After two rings, he picked up. "Why aren't you in class?" was the immediate greeting.
"Hi to you, too. I "threw up", so he sent me to the nurses office. Wanna go to the park?"
"What if I'm in class, huh? Have you ever thought about that?"
     "But... you're not, though."
"... Touché. I'll be there in five."
     "Cool, thanks."

      "So, tell me the story."
Ronan and I were sitting under a tall pine tree in the nearby park. It was sunny, which was nice, because it was starting to get cold out.
I chuckled, putting a piece of hair behind my ear. "Well, ha, Gansey called me, and I didn't have time to take the call, so I told Ivy to tell Mr. Sam-u-smell that I threw up."
Ronan laughed, and I pushed him with little effort. "It was a good plan!"
He pushed me back. "A good plan? It was so amateur!"
"Amateur? The only thing amateur here is your hair!"
Ronan puts his hand on his chest in mock offense. "You've damaged me, (Y/N)! My heart cannot go on!"
I laughed, "Oh please. Do you have a heart?"
Ronan suddenly took my hand and put it against his chest. I could feel his heart beat, bump-bump, bump-bump, bump-bump.
My cheeks flared up as he leaned in close to my ear. I felt his breath tickle my ear was he said, "I dunno, (Y/N), you tell me."
A million thoughts were running through my head. Was this Ronan trying to flirt with me? Or is he just teasing me? I'm so confused!
Ronan suddenly pulled away and threw a pick flower at me. I looked at him in confusion, still being a blushing mess.
"Gansey said you were good at flower crowns. I expect only the best."
