It was quite bizarre when the school and media caught the wind of them dating.

Son of Superintendent Hakuba, Hakuba Saguru, the youngest member of the KID's task force are dating son of the world renowned Kuroba Toichi, Kuroba Kaito, the rising aspiring magician?

When Saguru read the news in school, he grimaced bitterly. No wonder the reporters were following him all the way to school. He let out a soft sigh when he felt a gentle peck on his cheek from his new boyfriend of a month. They had been caught making out in front of the school entrance (Kaito's fault) a few days ago. So much for keeping this relationship a secret, he thought while rolling his eyes.

"Saguru~! Don't ignore your boyfriend!" Kaito whined loudly next to him from his seat. Everyone stopped doing whatever they were doing to look at the two hot new couple. Saguru snapped out of his thoughts to look at the brunette sheepishly. "Apologies, Kaito," he murmured before straightening up. "What were you thinking about?" Kaito asked, playing with the soft golden hair. "Nothing. Just the media," he replied demurely.

"The reporters had been following me around for quite some time now, wanting to know the details of our sudden relationship," Saguru added.

Kaito's eyes softened as he nuzzled Saguru's soft blond hair with his nose gently. "Do you want me to help you back them off?" he asked but the half-Brit just smiled and shook his head, saying, "There is no need for that, Kaito. I will be fine." The wild-haired male stared at him with a sense of doubt. "You're sure about this? I don't want anything bad to happen to you at all."

Saguru blushed slightly, heart sore as he noticed the amount of concern he had for him. "Yes, Kaito. I will be fine. Do not worry too much, alright?" he tapped Kaito's chin gently with his finger. Almost instantly, his phone rang and Saguru picked it up since there was no teacher in class. "Moshi moshi?" Saguru spoke and on the other side of the line, Nakamori-keibu was yelling an embarrassing amount of profinities. "Um... Excuse me but I only heard the word 'capture', keibu. What are you talking about?"

"Kaitou KID just sent a heist note to us and it's in code as always! We sent the code to your phone already, Hakuba-kun," Nakamori said. Sending a look at his boyfriend, he said, "I understand. I will decipher them now and I will send you my answer as soon as possible."

"Did you send the same code to Kudo-kun?" he asked, not knowing why he felt the need to ask of it and Nakamori snorted. "He called in earlier because he received the heist note personally sent by KID. He already solved it but won't tell us what it meant. He just said it's a game between KID and the task force."

Personally sent by KID, Saguru echoed before smiling bitterly. Even as KID, he would still prefer Kudo-kun"I see... I will decode it, keibu. Do not worry. Thank you for the notice," Saguru murmured before ending the call, focusing on his phone as he deciphered the code, ignoring Kaito's heavy gaze on him.

"Are you okay, Saguru-kun? You have that gloomy aura around you. Aoko is worried," she said. Saguru just smiled as he looked up from his book. "I am perfectly fine, Aoko-san. Your father called in to inform me about KID's new heist notice he just submitted." Aoko's expression turned sour. "That baka thief." Saguru went back to focus on his decoding before finally getting the answer and calling Nakamori-keibu again to tell him about it.

When lunch period came, Saguru immediately left to the rooftop, ignoring Aoko's and Kaito's concerned looks also Akako's calculative ones.

He sat down in the middle of the rooftop, under the sun as he basked in the pain he felt in his heart regarding his boyfriend who was also Kaitou KID.

The wind blew gently as if to calm Saguru down from his inner turmoil, which was slightly working. He couldn't help but think that it wasn't fair. He knew that he wasn't KID's favourite detective. He knew he wasn't Kaito's favourite person either. He still couldn't help but wonder why Kaito had chose to date him over the million fans he had or even Aoko. It just doesn't make any sense at all. What does Saguru have that others doesn't? Nothing at all.

"I've been standing here for quite some time now and it's a miracle you didn't even notice me. Or you did, but you just ignored me," Kaito spoke from his spot by the door. Saguru didn't move but Kaito knew he was listening. "Did I do something wrong, sweetheart? Is that why you're acting a little closed off?" he asked, purely curious and worried.

Saguru shook his head and spoke softly, "When are you going to tell me the truth? Are you ever going to tell me the truth?" he asked instead, knowing fully well that Kaito understood the question he had posed. "Kudo-kun... Hattori-kun... Both of them knew about it. Why can't I? Is it because I'm not like them?" he asked again, belittling his own self as he stared at his bento with a troubled expression. "If you give me that 'I don't want you to be in danger' crap, think again. I am a detective and I am always in danger wherever I go. So why did you refrain yourself from telling me?"

"Aoko-san, I can understand. Nakamori-keibu, I can understand that as well. Why would you not tell me? I bet Koizumi-san knew as well, does she not? Not by choice, but still." Saguru packed up his leftovers and stood up, turning to look at Kaito with a soft smile, eyes empty from any emotions. "However, I am nothing if not patient. I hope you will tell me but if you do not want to... I guess that is... explicable too. I just hope that I would not have to find out when you were endangering yourself at your heists."

With that, he left quickly, shoving his broken heart deep in the corner of his mind.

He knew that he had hurt Kaito when he uttered those words past his lips, but he couldn't help himself. All the insecurities and bitterness he felt in his heart towards his own boyfriend and everyone around him was getting stronger the more he thought about it. He felt guilty. Of course, he did. Which was why he ditched school, running towards his house with tears streaming down his face.

"Young Master Hakuba," his baaya greeted in surprise. "What are you doing here? You are supposed to be in school!" she scolded him but he couldn't be bothered with it as he ran passed her to his room, locking the windows and the door. He panted and slid down to the floor with his back to the door as he cried his heart out. He reached for his phone and immediately dialed the number he had memorised at heart.

"Saguru?" his mom answered the phone call. Her voice was starting to sooth him as he croaked out his mother's name. "Oh darling. What happened, dear? Why are you crying?"

"How can someone genuinely like me for who I am, mother? As in... romantically? I have been thinking about this again and again."

"Darling, you are the most precious person I had ever raised and taught. You are my son. There are people who loves you, baby. You have your fans remember? Both in England and in Japan."

"No one ever loves me genuinely, mother," he said.
