"I'm just sitting out here watching airplanes... take off and fly" - Gary Allen

I pulled down the unlit dirt road a few miles away from the airport and parked Betty in a small field. "You like airplanes?" I asked enthusiastically.

"Who doesn't!" Benjamin replied mimicking my enthusiasm.

I turned Betty off and got out. Benjamin followed suit and we sat on Betty's hood. He lit a cigarette.

"Want one?" He offered handing me a cigarette.

Before I could grab it out of his hand he said, "Just don't throw up on me this time."

"I'll try my best" I laughed playfully hitting him on the arm. "Look up and wait." I said looking into the night sky. The stars were really shining tonight.

"Wait for an airplane?" Benjamin asked confused. "We're like, in the middle of nowhere." He stated as if I didn't know where I had driven us.

"You'll see" I said looking over at him smiling.

He smiled his silly smile back just as the first airplane was flying above.

"Where the hell are you?" Piper asked me when I picked up the phone after her third attempt to call me.

An airplane was flying overhead just as I answered the phone.

"At the airfield watching airplanes with Benjamin." I said non chalantly.

"Who the fuck is Benjamin?" Piper asked still yelling.

I put my phone on speaker and set it down.

"The guy that works at the gas station... duh." I replied like she should've known.

"That dorky guy Jose hired?" She asked sounding confused.

"Uh... Piper, you're on speaker phone." I said embarrassed for both of us.

"Hi Piper. Nice to meet you!" Benjamin chimed in. I couldn't help but laugh.

"Hiiiii...." Piper said overly enthusiastic. "Hey Rylee girl can you take me off speaker phone. Please." Piper asked as sweet as she could muster.

"Yesss?" I said once off speaker phone.

"Why are you watching airplanes with the gas station guy?" She asked quietly.

"Why not?" I answered.

"Because it's 9 o'clock at night... you're not answering my calls and you're an hour from home with a strange guy... sorry for being concerned." She huffed at me.

"Does she really think I'm dorky?" I heard Benjamin whisper over my shoulder.

"He wants to know if you really think he's dorky" I asked Piper.

"Rylee..." is all she said.

"Piper..." I answered.

"Look... thank you for the concern but I'm good. I promise. I'll call you later." I finally said to get her off the phone.

"Promise?" She said.

"Always! Love youuu" I said finally hanging up the phone.

"So... that's your best friend" Benjamin said looking at me worried.

"Yeah. Sorry about her... she has chronic mouthfootitis." I attempted to lighten the mood.

"It's the uniform." he said as if I had asked him a question.
