"Never get jealous when you see your ex with someone else, our parents taught us to give our used toys to the less fortunate."
After Luke dumped me, I spent the next two weeks in mourning. I'm so thankful that it's summertime. My days consisted of never leaving my bed, stuffing my face with Nutella and watching cheesy rom coms on Netflix. Piper and Joey came by every day to try to get me out of my funk.
"He was weird." Joey says to me as if he'd been thinking of it for a while. I was midway through a spoonful of Nutella.
"In what way Joey? He was perfect, and I fucked it all up!" I whimpered defensively.
"No, for real Rylee, I never liked the dude. I just pretended to because Piper told me I had to." Joey admitted. I looked at Piper as she sat at my desk browsing Facebook pretending not to hear us.
"Do you think he's weird?" I asked her. She turned to look at me.
"He's...uh...different Rylee girl. He's not the same Luke he was three years ago." She answered. I sat in silence soaking in her answer.
"Yeah...but..." I stammered. I didn't really have an argument. Piper was right, he had changed, not in a particularly bad way, but she was right. He's not the same Luke he was three years ago.
"But I still love him!" I finally managed to argue.
"Do you though?" Joey interjected.
Piper is so lucky to have Joey. They've been a couple since 3rd grade, so she's more than lucky she's living a damn fairy tale. Joey is like a giant football playing teddy bear. He's tall with a linebacker's build and tan skin from playing football his whole life. He has curly light brown hair which is always a mess on top of his head. His laugh is contagious and anyone who knows him would say he is loud and hilarious but has a heart of gold. His mother is a severe alcoholic and he raises his little brother, Jake, basically all on his own. Like I said, a heart of gold. If you ask him when he knew he was in love with Piper, he always tells the same story: "Well. You see... I pantsed her when we were 7 and the first time I saw that girls naked ass I knew I was going to marry her one day!" Piper always smacks him when he tells it, but you know she secretly loves it. Pipers my best friend but Joey's a close second.
"Well... do you?" Joey asked again.
"Do I what?" I questioned, forgetting what we were talking about.
"See... that answers it right there..." He laughed. "Do you actually love him Rylee?" He questioned for a third time.
"I... I do... uh... I did... I think...ugghh I don't know!" I whined throwing myself onto my bed burying my face into my pillow. Joey patted my head, "It's okay Rylee girl. It's okay."
"Uhhh...Rylee??" I heard Piper say as if there were a ghost standing in front of her. I lifted my head off the bed, my heart was pounding. Her tone of voice was unlike anything I've ever heard.
"... what?" I asked terrified of the answer.
"Come here." was all she said. Piper was still browsing Facebook on the computer at my desk when I sat up and saw her from across the room.
Amy.
Jones.
Amy Jones with her arms around Luke.
MY LUKE!!!!
I got off the bed and walked closer hoping the steam coming out of my ears wouldn't burn anything.
"Why the fuck does that bitch have her arms around MY fucking boyfriend??!" I asked nobody in particular.
"Ex..." Joey whispered. I shot him my best possible death glare.
