The air felt crisp as I teleported Y/N and I into the department store. I let go of her hand as I pulled out a flashlight, searching for a familiar mannequin. After a few seconds of walking around, I approached her. I waved Y/N over here, signaling for her to come by my side.
"Delores" I whispered. "I've missed you" I said as I snagged my hand around Y/N's waist, pulling her closer to me.
"Five, you're talking to a mannequin" Y/N snickered at me.
"It's been a rough couple of days" I continued, tuning her out.
A few moments of silence pass until the sound of gunshots could be heard. My instincts kicked in and I grabbed ahold of Y/N's hand and teleported away. The gunshot just missed us and struck Delores. I ran back to Delores and caressed her head.
"I'll be back for you" I whispered, laying the mannequin back down on the ground.
I teleported back to Y/N, she looked terrified. We ran through the aisles, trying to somehow get away from these idiots. Gunshots could be heard from miles away, but they missed us every single time. Or so I thought...
As we were running, one gunshot went off and I felt Y/N stumble a little.
"Five" she mumbled "I got shot" she continued, starting to fall to the ground.
"Aw shit, oh no" I instantly dropped to the ground with her. Her stomach was bleeding out. I couldn't go on with this fight with her like this. I could tell she was trying to keep her eyes open for me, but she couldn't. This wasn't a good sign. She shortly closed her eyes as she whispered, "I love you"
"I love you too" I mumbled, holding her close to my chest.
I teleported the both of us out of that mess, and we ended up in the kitchen of the academy.
I was carrying the girl who I love in my arms as she was dying. Her blood was staining my clothes, but I didn't care. The only thing I cared about was getting her to safety. Even though I was trembling, I called out for my mother.
"Grace, help! Y/N got shot" I shouted. I slowly kneeled on the ground and laid her down in my lap. I leaned down and gave her a kiss on her forehead. This is all my fault, I'm the reason why she's hurt. I should have never dragged her out in the middle of the night like this.
After what seemed like forever, Grace appeared in the hallway. She rushed over as I stood up and carried her bridal style. We laid her down on a hospital bed that we had.
Grace applied pressure to the wound and tried her best to save her, but she had a sad look on her face.
"She's not going to make it. She lost too much blood already. I'm sorry, Five" she stated bluntly.
That struck my heart. I can't believe what I just heard. I fell to my knees as tears started to form in my eyes.
"No, no, no, no, NO!" I screamed, slamming my fists on the floor. "After I just got her back into my life, she's gone again. And it's all my fucking fault!" I sobbed, Grace just stared at me with remorse.
I couldn't bare to even glance at her body again, I failed her. I failed to be her protector. Her biggest fear was dying, and I couldn't even protect her from that.
